The Tiffen 58mm Digital HT 4 Point/2mm Star Effect Filter is a cross screen filter providing 4 reflected light points stemming from specular highlights within the image frame. When the filter is rotated in front of the lens, the points shift in direction but always reflect symmetrically north-south, east-west. This effect is caused by thinly etched lines on one of the planes of the filter. These etched lines are spaced 2mm apart, producing visual depth and separation between light points in the resulting image. Star effect filters are most effective when not used in combination with other filters.

The Digital HT coating is a high transmission multi-coating that surpasses military specifications for hardness and durability. This optical purity combined with high scratch-resistance results in an easy-to-clean filter with superb imaging quality. They also feature low-profile titanium filter rings for increased strength and vignetting reduction.

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology; a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, then mounting to precision metal rings.

Cross screen filter providing 4 reflected light points that stem symmetrically from specular highlights within the image frame.

Reflected points of light change direction when filter is rotated.

Star effect is caused by thinly etched lines on the filter surface and does not affect exposure or coloration of the image.

Digital HT multi-coating provides increased strength, durability, and optical clarity for greater light transmission and protection against scratches.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hellow quick question, can this camera shoot in a night vision mode or infrared for night time sky photography?

A: For night sky photography capturing the Milky Way, you do not need night vision or infrared. In fact, neither would get you the look you are looking for. Ideally, you would use a full frame sensor camera and a quality wide angle prime lens (plus a tripod) to do astrophotography. The P1000 camera will do very well capturing a close up of the moon. However, it would not be a good choice for night time sky photography. That is because the sensor is too small for good and the lens too slow for low light capture. Shooting the night sky means no more than a 30 second exposure otherwise the stars move too much and become not beautiful point of light but ugly blur. You can do that with a full frame camera and fast prime lens and not with the P1000. And finally, to answer your question, there is no night vision or infrared in the P1000.

Q: 2. Do you (B&H) sell Nikon's dot sight eyepiece adapter for their P950? I've been searching your GREAT app for months and it never comes up!!

A: B&H does not carry Nikon red dot sights.

Q: 3. What is the filter thread size?

A: 77 mm.

Q: 4. How granular are the on-board audio controls? Can AGC be turned off? Is the input smart enough for using external mic sources without interfering with the external gear's audio quality?

A: While this camera has big lens capabilities, its audio should be considered entry level. Since we do not have access to sufficient information, we can only offer the opinion that probably you will be able to turn AGC off. As to the mic input being smart enough, we are of the thought that the pre-amp circuitry is entry level and if you wish discerning audio, we recommend a separate, and quality, audio recorder.

Q: 5. Will the zoom on this be better than the p900 to prove that the earth is actually flat?

A: Yes, but the P900 has already proven the earth is flat. So this camera will just hammer all the ball earthers into admitting the earth is flat

Q: 6. What Arca type plate fits the P1000?

A: The Acratech Arca-Type Universal Quick Release Plate will work: https://bhpho.to/2eRPatk

Q: 7. dslr?

A: The Nikon COOLPIX P1000 Digital Camera is a point and shoot camera with a 24-3000mm lens (35mm equivalent) and a 1/2.3"-Type CMOS image sensor.

Q: 8. What is the bitrate of the 4K Video files?

A: The bitrate of the 4K Video files for the Nikon COOLPIX P950 Digital Camera is 420

Q: 9. Is P1000 compatible with the Ronin-S?

A: The P1000 would be child's play for the Ronin-S so yes it is compatible. However, the Ronin-S is meant for bigger cameras and so you will probably find the Ronin-S with the P1000 is overkill. You might consider instead the Moza AirCross Gimbal Kit with Thumb Controller and Dual Handgrip B&H # MOAIRCROSSTH (B&H Kit) It is a better weight match.

Q: 10. Is the EVF B/W or Color?

A: B&W. The Leica Q2's sensor does not have a color array and does not record color, hence the EVF (which is essentially a live display of the sensor) is in B&W as well.
