Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this Lens work on a Canon EOS Rebel T1i / EOS 500D?

A: Yes.

Q: 2. Will it work on a Canon EOS Rebel T6???

A: Jorge, it will work, but be aware because of the crop factor, it really won't give you the true results of a 17-40mm. That said, I have one that I use on full frame bodies, and it's a nice light lens with reasonable quality.

Q: 3. I have a canon 6D with the kit lens 24-105mm F/4L lens. Is this EF17-40 F/4L make a lot of difference in image quality as well as wide angle coverage and depth of field for just the 7MM difference. I do a lot of travel and landscape photos.

A: Aside from the difference in focal lengths, the 17-40mm f/4L will give you a closer minimum focusing distance than the 24-105mm will. However, the 24-105mm features image stabilization, whereas the 17-40mm does not. Both of these lenses are great choices for landscape and travel photography, as they both feature wide angle and standard focal lengths, as well as a constant f/4 aperture. The 24-105mm may give you more versatility if you want a lens that has more range on the telephoto end, however, if you are shooting primarily wider shots, the 17-40mm is excellent.

Q: 4. Why the AF of the EF-S 17-85m f.4-5.6 IS USM doesn't operate with my EOS Rebel T3?

A: The Canon EF-S 17-85mm lens is compatible and should autofocus on a Canon T3.Make sure on the lens the AF/M switch is set to AF (autofocus). If you continue to have issues it is best to contact us by email, chat or phone for such issues.

Q: 5. How is image quality (IQ) compared to Tamron 17-55mm f/2.8? I own the Tamron and it is OK but I'd like better IQ. However, I'd hate to waste money on the far more expensive Canon if the IQ is comparable. Anyone have experience with both?

A: Unfortunately I do not own the Tamron lens, so I cannot make a direct comparison. I do like the Canon lens, like you I am not sure that it commands the added expense. I believe if you are very critical of IQ you would find the Canon is a subjectively better lens. You can make a comparison of both lens' photos on the DXO mark site.

Q: 6. i have cankn 5d mark iv. knowing this is a older lens, how will the quality be.

A: The 17-40mm lens is very good image quality and will work quite well on the 5DIV.

Q: 7. would this fit the 5d mark ii full frame?

A: Yes, this will work on all Canon DSLR's, full frame or crop sensor.

Q: 8. Can this be used with Bowens mount strobes or just continuous?

A: Hi Nicholas, Godox does not recommend the use of this adapter with strobes.

Q: 9. Do I need a mount adaptor for the EF 7-40mm to be used with Canon RP? Would it make the lens 17-40 longer and bulker?

A: The excellent Canon 17-40mm (I have had one for years) is made for cameras with a mirror box. It must have that same distance on any camera otherwise it will not be able to focus to infinity. So if you chop off the mirror, in order to maintain that distance, you have to add it back in the form of an adapter. The advantage is you get use your present lenses. The disadvantage is you do add bulk to the camera/lens combination. However, when you can, sell the 17-40mm and get a native R mount lens.

Q: 10. Is this lens parfocal?

A: Yes, the 17-40 is considered a Parfocal lens. And note that Parfocal zooms in the Canon EF lens line-up are essentially limited to the fixed-aperture L-series category and front-focusing zoom lenses.
