Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Do you set the aperture using the ring on the lens? Or do you set it through the camera?

A: Only on the Lens. The camera doesn't know the aperture but auto exposure works fine.

Q: 2. Is this an autofocus lenses???

A: It's manual focus only. With this short focal length and high depth of field, you typically put it at infinity (which you have to check by live view zoomed in and not trust the markings on the lens) and don't change the focus during the entire day. Unless you're planning on taking close-ups of course.

Q: 3. what size (in mm) of filter should fit on?

A: As stated in the spec section: 67mm

Q: 4. Is this lens compatible with Panasonic Lumix DMC Gm5K? Can it be used to take galaxy or milk way photos?

A: I use this lens on my Fuji XT2 and it does a great job getting Milky Way shots.

Q: 5. Does this lens have good rectilinear quality? If you shot a building with it, would the sides of the buildings appear curved?

A: This 12th lens is the best compromise for a wide angle with minimal to no discernable curvature. It works great for buildings and landscape photography. This is a great lens, bang for the buck I think it has no equal. In fact, I am using this lens on vacation right now. I use this lens on a Sony a6000 e-mount. Just keep in mind that this is a manual focus. It is very easy to use though.

Q: 6. Does this lens work with GH4 on focus peaking for both photo and video?

A: Yes, the focus peaking does work with both photos & video on the GH4.

Q: 7. What is the difference between Samyang 12mm F2.0 and Rokinon 12mm F2.0? Which one is better?

A: No difference, you pay a bit more for the rokinon name but made by the same company

Q: 8. Will there be light metering with this lens on om-d em-1? Thanks.

A: I don't have a lot of experience with the Olympus digital system, but if it works like my Fujifilm mirrorless system, you just have to go in the menu and turn on the setting that allows you to shoot without a lens, or in this case, a non-CPU lens. The camera should adjust shutter and ISO, you just need to manually adjust the aperture ring on the lens. I am able to use exposure compensation and shoot in manual or aperture priority on my camera. I don't think that Olympus mirrorless should be any different.

Q: 9. Is this lens compatible with the Sony Alpha a7II (full-frame CMOS sensor)?

A: Yes and no. The mount will fit but image probably will not cover the entire sensor. I believe there is a function on the camera that will automatically crop the picture bu

Q: 10. Medium photography experience. Zero architecture shooting experience. Would this be a good lens for me. Up to this point I've been steered to the FUJI 10-24 which is a bit pricey for me. Suggestions? Thank you.

A: I have the 10-24 Fuji xt lens which i used the most in Iceland. It is a fabulous lens. I bought this particular lens for Astro photography aka northern lights. It is a great lens for the money.
