So what you say- it allows connection between a smart phone and the camera in order to add latitude and longitude info to the EXIF data for any given image. I find this very helpful when traveling and doesn't require waiting for the GPS to acquire data which can be rather slow. This method also does not noticeably draw the battery down. Aside from the large number of screen selectable settings and a less than lucid manual I like the camera a lot. I upgraded from a Nikon D7100 DSLR equipped with 300 mm telephoto lens, standard kit and macro lenses, which obviously take a lot of space and are heavy collectively. My R10IV weighs a little less than the D7100 body and kit lens! For me the price difference is worth it.
