Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. will the software with this remove scratches from B&W negatives?

A: Yes and no. If you rely on Digital Ice, your images will lose detail because the program cannot perfectly differentiate between scratches and detail. You'll get best results with some kind of photo editing software like Photoshop. This is a great scanner for the money, but it can't work miracles.

Q: 2. Will the Epson V600 work with an iMac with 10.15.2 (Catalina)? if not, what do I do?

A: According to Epson, upgrading to macOS 10.15 Catalina requires the install of the Epson Scan 2 driver which can be downloaded on the support page for V600. They also note that this version of the driver doesn’t included Digital ICE and the SilverFast SE driver/utility is being provided which has Infrared Dust and Scratch removal to use in lieu of Digital ICE.

Q: 3. Is this scanner compatible with a Mac OS Mojave 10.14.5?

A: Yes the scanner will work with Mac OS Mojave 10.14.5, just be sure to update it and you should be fine.

Q: 4. speed of scan?

A: It takes about 2 minutes to scan an 8x10 print.

Q: 5. Does it scan photos at 6400 optical?

A: Yes the maximum optical resolution of the Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner is 6400dpi.

Q: 6. Is this scanner supported on Mac OS Ventura 13.6.3 on a Mac Mini with Apple Chip?

A: The Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner will run perfectly fine on Mac OS Ventura 13.6.3 on a Mac Mini.

Q: 7. Is this scanner portable to use with my Mac Laptop?

A: While the Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner is not battery powered, it can be transported to use in different locations. The scanner is compatible with the latest MacOS.

Q: 8. is the optical resolution a true 6400 DPI? I've heard of scanners with similar numbers like canon just digitally beefing up the numbers on the software which can cause some loss in genuine detail. I'm starting with 35mm slides but I'm soon going to be upgrading to medium and large format film in the coming months.

A: Hi Jesse, I own that same scanner and love it, I shot both medium format film and digital, typically I scan my negs. or color transperancies at either 1200 or 2400. and have found to work very well. At times I have scanned 35mm slides at the same resolution. Not sure you need to scan at 6400. I would scan at different dpi and see which one you prefer after you print them at the size you typically print at.Hope this helps you. Rick

Q: 9. My Apple laptop is now on OS X Yosemite 10.10.5. Is this compatible with the V-600? Since I have never scanned before, my 2nd question has to do with transfer of the digital image to my computer----a USB thumb drive maybe?

A: Hi, there. Hope this will help you!(1) Refer your first question to a B&H representative or to Epson. I suggest starting with B&H. B&H reps are accessible by phone and are really helpful. (2) Once you scan an image (photo, document or film, including transparencies) you will send that image directly to a designated file on your computer. (3) This is a flatbed scanner. Thumb drives and USB connections are used to transfer images directly from your camera (not from flatbed scanners) to your computer, usually to an imaging program such as Lightroom or Photoshop. It is generally advisable to transfer images from the camera to a thumb drive and then upload from the thumb drive to your computer.

Q: 10. Is this better for photos than the scanner built into my printer (HP Officejet)?

A: Yes the Epson V600 uses a CCD sensor and has 6400dpi for better quality photos. All on one printer/scanner/copier units use CIS (contact image sensors) and generally only have 2400dpi. CIS sensors are lower quality and not as good for photos compared to CCD sensors.
