A: Both the IR transmitter (at the front-end of the remote) and IR receiver (on the camera) need to be able to see each other in order for it to fire. If you want to use it and then keep it out of sight, set your camera to 2-5-10 second self-timer modes, fire it, then hide the remote in your pocket.
