Interested in going beyond the cyan cyanotype to worlds unknown? Blue Sunprints knows just what you're looking for. Their turquoise Cyanotype Cotton Squares - 6 x 6" (50 Pack, Turquoise) give you outstanding, even psychedelic, images on a versatile medium. Make a print to exist on its own, or incorporate your photo onto clothing, linens, or other non-traditional surfaces. The resulting image will garner everyone's attention. The area where your object was will remain the original turquoise color of the cotton, and the negative space will turn a deep, dark hue. Bonita!

The Cotton Squares come pre-washed and pre-treated, in a black light-safe bag. Simply choose your objects or negatives and place them on the cotton, out in the sun. Experiment with varying exposure times for the look you want. Both sides of the material can be exposed differently as well, making for double-sided, yet unique, prints. Once your image is finished exposing, rinse it thoroughly using non-phosphate detergent. After the initial rinsing, the cotton squares can be washed and rewashed without losing their vibrancy, thanks to their archival nature. Should you want to embellish your print, the material allows for any number of creative enhancements.

1. Choose your design
Your design choices are nearly endless. Here are some ideas: Drawings or photographs that have been printed on transparencies or acetate. Actual objects such as leaves, flowers, string, toys, letters, hands, jewelry. Experiment with photographic negatives, x-rays, cut-outs or clip art, lace, and sheer fabrics. Use your imagination - try anything! Once you have chosen your design, lay it on the cyanotype material. To hold your design in place during your sun exposure, use a piece of clear glass or Plexiglas for a tight contact or lay your design loosely if there is no wind. You can also choose to pin your design down into a piece of cardboard or foam core

2. Expose your sun print
First make a test print by exposing your design in the sun for different lengths of time on a small section of cyanotype material (use the test print chart included in the instructions as a guide). Then choose the best exposure time to get the tone you want. To print on both sides of the cyanotype material, first expose one side to the sun using your desired exposure time, then turn the material over, lay the same or different design on the second side and expose it for any time you choose. Once you have exposed your sun print, remove your design

3. Rinse your sun print
When you rinse your print in water for a few minutes (until the water runs clear) your cyanotype print will begin to appear immediately. The negative space on the print will be a dark hue and your design will be the original turquoise color of the paper. If you want a darker effect, spray hydrogen peroxide on your rinsed print. The darker color will appear instantly

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does it work with the C100 continuous DAF upgrade? Because my tamron 70-200VC does not!

A: Canon only lists that it works with their lenses. And so I am sorry but only information we have is that it might work.

Q: 2. Will this work on the Fuji X series? For example the Fuji 18-55mm kit lens. As it's a cropped sensor would it make a difference?

A: This adapter requires a lens that has the proper filter thread along with the proper focal length and diameter of the lens itself. For APS-C cameras the focal length needs to be between 35-85mm, that lens will have a portion that is not usable. It also requires to have a lens diameter of no more than 50mm and the lens you suggested is larger than that. We do not believe they will be compatible.

Q: 3. Does this lens come with a hood?

A: yes it does

Q: 4. Does this lens work well with the Nikon D7500 and D5600?

A: The Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens for Nikon F is an excellent lens to use with both the Nikon D7500 and the Nikon D5600.

Q: 5. Anyone using this for indoor high school sports, basketball, volleyball?

A: Yes, the Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens for Canon EF would be a good option for sports photography usage needs. It would be the equivalent of a 80-160mm f/1.8 lens on a Canon EOS DSLR camera that uses their APS-C 1.6x crop sensor. As long as you are close enough to frame your images as you desire (you would need to be closer to your subjects than you may normally be when using a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens), you should be fine, and the f/1.8 aperture gives you 1-1/3 stop extra exposure, so you could use a lower ISO setting or a faster shutter speed setting compared to those you have used with the 70-200mm f/2.8 lens. For example, if you were normally shooting at ISO 2000 to get f/2.8 at 1/750 sec to freeze action, you would now be able to shoot a similar image at f/1.8 at 1/750 sec and instead use ISO 800, which would give you less noise. The lens has decent autofocus performance in low light, and you may fine-tune the focus performance using the Sigma USB Dock and/or the AF Micro-Adjustment feature in your camera (if available, depending on your camera model).

Q: 6. Does anyone know which way the focus works on the XF lenses? Does it pull closer to the right like canon lenses or is it the opposite like Nikon, and some Sony lenses?

A: You rotate the lens' focusing ring to the left to reduce the focus distance, and rotate the focusing ring to the right to increase the focus distance out to infinity. However, you may go into the menu and go to BUTTON/DIAL SETTING FOCUS RING to reverse the direction of rotation of the focus ring.

Q: 7. Any Fuji X-T10 owners using this lens? Too heavy?

A: Heavy compared to what? The lens is heavy if you compare it to the 27mm pancake lens. If you compare the lens to the equivalent 70-200mm used on DSLR's the lens is much lighter. I have been using this lens since it was released, I have no issues with the weight of it. The lens is fast and sharp.

Q: 8. What will happen if it is used on a full frame camera?

A: If attached to a Full Frame camera, a DX format (crop) grid will show up in your viewfinder and will give you a crop on your full frame sensor. Still possible to use it, but your resolution would decrease.

Q: 9. Is optical stabilization a feature of this lens??

A: Unfortunately, Sigma does not list this lens as having their Optical Stabilizer built into it.

Q: 10. would it work on a d5300 nikon?

A: I'm using it on a d7200. And it is beautiful I assume it work on the 5300. The format and mount are the same
