The Heliopan 55mm RG 665 Infrared Filter is designed to help capture images of how a subject reflects or transmits infrared light.

Infrared light waves occupy the space in the electromagnetic spectrum behind visible light due to their longer wavelengths. Many surfaces and materials react to, or emit infrared light waves differently than visible light waves, which provide the potential for photographs of subjects or subject properties that are otherwise invisible to the human eye. Such images require an infrared-sensitive medium such as infrared film or a digital photographic sensor which may be more effective when used without the infrared-blocking filters that are frequently built over them.

Conventional light sources such as the sun, photographic strobes, or incandescent lighting may be used to provide infrared illumination. However, because infrared films or digital photographic sensors can be more sensitive to the relatively higher energy and shorter-wavelength visible light those sources also emit, the effects of infrared light can be otherwise obscured. The Heliopan 55mm RG 665 Infrared Filter makes it possible to capture images of how subjects are illuminated by infrared light by blocking near-infrared, visible, and ultraviolet light waves while allowing 90% of infrared light waves 665nm or greater into the lens it is mounted onto.

This filter is constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity and features a thin brass filter ring to minimize the potential for vignetting while enhancing durability and jamming prevention.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Which country is this lens manufactured in?

A: According to the information we have, our current inventory's Country of Origin is Thailand. Please be aware this can change over the product's production life without notice.

Q: 2. Is the focus ring on this lens throwable in the sense that it will give you some play from one focal point to the next? I have the Sony G 18-105 lens for my FS5 and the manual focus is terrible as it shifts from one focal plane to the next with very little movement. I'm going to be using this a a video lens so I need an old-school style of focus ring that isn't servo-based.

A: Not as well as what you would get from a lens that was designed for manual focusing. The 55/1.8 is really an outstanding lens, but designed for autofocusing. It's OK for manual focusing if you're using focus peaking, and plenty of time to make delicate little adjustments with the focus ring. But for your use case, which is video, I would suggest a lens like the Loxia 50mm f/2. There are also many excellent third party 50mm f/1.4 manual focus lenses that you could use with the Sony E-mount via adapters, if shallow DoF is important.

Q: 3. is this lens compatible with the sony a7s?

A: Yes

Q: 4. does this lens have image stabilization?

A: Hi Marjorie, no. This lens doesn't have a built-in optical steady shot (image stabilization). -Anthony

Q: 5. In one review video, a guy showed an interesting front protector for this lens - a 49mm filter adapter whose outer diameter is exactly the same as the diameter of the lens body. It was some kind of vintage thing that is no longer in production. Any idea what kind of modern adapter might serve this purpose?

A: We don't have such a device--we only have 49mm protective filters for this lens.

Q: 6. What size of the filter should i buy for this lense? a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/900278-REG/Hoya_anxt55uv_55mm_NXT_UV_Haze.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/900278-REG/Hoya_anxt55uv_55mm_NXT_UV_Haze.html/a

A: 49mm

Q: 7. When this lens is used on a6000, I saw the SteadyShot cannot be turned on. Is this normal?

A: No- something is not working or you are not setting the correct function. You have to set the focal length for stabilization first pressing the rear wheel button and then dialing in the focal length.

Q: 8. Would this lens, compared to the Sony FE 50mm f/1.8 Lens be overkill for photographing artwork on a tripod? I'm getting a Sony a7RII for copy work and am not sure which of these two lenses would be the best deal with it.

A: This is one of Sony sharpest lenses for Sony full frame mirrorless cameras. The 50mm f1.8 have a basic optical quality and can not be compare with Sony Sonnar T* FE 55mm f/1.8 ZA Lens. Your camera A7R II will benefit a lot more if you use the 55mm f1.8 lens because the it can transmite a lot more details and a higher dynamic range.

Q: 9. Is the ring on the lease a focus ring or a zoom ring? And if its a focus ring, is there any way of setting it into a zoom ring on the Sony A7?

A: This is a prime lens. It is only 55mm nothing else. So the focus ring is only a focus ring. Since this lens has only one focal length it stays and always will stay at 55mm. It is an excellent prime lens. If you want sharp. This is the lens to get. If you want a multiple focal lengths (zoom) in a lens you need to find another lens.

Q: 10. Why choose this over the Sigma 60mm DN (ART) lens?

A: The Sigma 60mm is for APS-C sensors like the a6000. Its a good lens, but nothing like the 55mm f1.8 Zeiss, which is FE (for full-frame sensors) and works with all Sony's A7 series cameras.

This transmitter is handy when needed. One of those things not used much but essential to have on occasion to avoid camera shake, make posed and staged shots easier, use self-timer, etc. Small, affordable, easy to use with no cables to attach.

I use it in order for me to not touch the shutter button to eliminate camera shake. It is cheaper to buy the remote rather than buying a Vibration Reduction lens. I did use it to take a self portrait because I always behind the lens. I will be using it for the Christmas family portrait

Works great and will come in handy for group shots or our Christmas family picture. The only drawback is that you have to be in front of the camera for it to work. But...that is beef with the camera NOT the remote.

This is the best device I've bought since I went digital. I set my cameras up in a location I normally could not use if I had to stand there. It allows for very candid shots, and works great with wild animals (I can keep my eye on them)and let the remote take the pictures. A perfect size, but distance is somewhat limited, and in some areas there is slight hesitation from electronic spillage. (Major cities)

How to take tripod pictures without shaking the camera? My options were cable release, self timer, or this controller. Although a bit ackward to use when standing behind the camera, the size and wireless freedom were more than enough compensation. Also, taking images with myself included in the frame, are much easier, with no dangling wire in the picture. I know there are situations when the cable release is more useful, and I will probably get one soon -- Howeevr, I have not encountered these yet.

Works great at an excellent price. Sure beats using a timer and having to jump into the photo.
