The Heliopan Bay 2 RG 1000 Infrared Filter is designed to help capture images of how a subject reflects or transmits infrared light.

Infrared light waves occupy the space in the electromagnetic spectrum behind visible light due to their longer wavelengths. Many surfaces and materials react to, or emit infrared light waves differently than visible light waves, which provide the potential for photographs of subjects or subject properties that are otherwise invisible to the human eye. Such images require an infrared-sensitive medium such as infrared film or a digital photographic sensor which may be more effective when used without the infrared-blocking filters that are frequently built over them.

Conventional light sources such as the sun, photographic strobes, or incandescent lighting may be used to provide infrared illumination. However, because infrared films or digital photographic sensors can be more sensitive to the relatively higher energy and shorter-wavelength visible light those sources also emit, the effects of infrared light can be otherwise obscured. The Heliopan Bay 2 RG 1000 Infrared Filter makes it possible to capture images of how subjects are illuminated by infrared light by blocking near-infrared, visible, and ultraviolet light waves while allowing 70% of infrared light waves 1000nm or greater into the lens it is mounted onto.

Because of the degree to which the Heliopan Bay 2 RG 1000 Infrared Filter blocks the electromagnetic spectrum up to infrared light waves 1000nm or greater, proper exposure is determined by the infrared sensitivity level of the film or imaging sensor behind it. The particular intensity of infrared-emitting light sources, as well as the relative location of the camera and lens on which this filter is used, can also influence exposure.

This filter is constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity and features a brass filter ring for durability and jamming prevention.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. why is there a display port on the back of this thing? HDMI?

A: An external monitor can be daisy chained through the OWC ThunderBay 4 4-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Enclosure via the Thunderbolt connection.

Q: 2. Is there a way to connect a mac without a Thunderbolt port to this?

A: No, the only connection for any computer to this hard drive is thunderbolt. No other connection.Haile Okbe, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Q: 3. Dose it come with a thunderbolt cable and if so what length?

A: Yes, a 1 meter cable is included.

Q: 4. I purchased one of these units - along with 4x16TB 3.5inch drives, and am running this in Raid 5. I have filled up the drives and just wandering - Can I purchase 4 new drives and set it up as a fresh Raid-5, but still have the option in the future to plug back in my old drives and access the data? Will the enclosure recognise previously created volumes?

A: In order to create a new RAID setup with the OWC ThunderBay 4 4-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Enclosure, you will need to purchase the SoftRAID XT software from OWC. That will allow you to have a new RAID setup. But when you put in the old drives, the enclosure will recognize the old drives. Make sure that you number the drives and input them in the same bay as removed.

Q: 5. Is the Ram upgradeable?

A: No, the Synology DiskStation DS223 2-Bay NAS Enclosure's RAM is not upgradeable.

Q: 6. can I connect 2 iMacs simultaneously?

A: This enclosure can only be connected to one computer at a time. If you need to connect more than one computer you would need a NAS solution.

Q: 7. I understand some users are having issues with the TB 3 connection dropping some drives randomly. (Note: similar problem existed with TB2 version and certain Macs, I experienced that myself). Has there been any resolution to those connectivity issues?

A: Peter,I had this problem extensively when I first bought the Thunderbay 4 enclosure. But I've since solved the problem. It now has happened only one time since then. Please bear with me while I explain how I fixed the problem. BTW no amount of searching the internet will help you. This took months of trouble shooting to figure out the solution.I have a new (2017) iMac Pro base model. I have the ThunderBay 4 enclosure and an OWC Thunderbolt 3 dock. The dock is used to add some much needed extra ports, most needed was the legacy Firewire 800 of which I have many FW800 external drives. There are two buses on the iMac Pro for the four (4) Thunderbolt ports on the back. The first two ports are on one bus, the last two are on the other bus. Being the neat freak that I am (and why I buy Apple products) I had both the TB4 enclosure and the TB3 dock connected to the last two thunderbolt ports, thus being on the same bus. You cannot do this (why, I don't know). You can check this by clicking on the About this Mac in the (black) Apple menu (top left corner) and then go to System Report. Go to Thunderbolt and you'll see Bus 1 and Bus 2, you'll see what I'm talking about.SOLUTION: You MUST have the TB4 enclosure and TB3 Dock each on it's own bus. So, connect one device to either the first two ports and the other device to one of the last two ports. Since then, I have only had a drive drop once (and that was when I had another external USB-C drive connected to the same bus as the TB4 enclosure). So I would guess this would be a problem on any Mac. Keep the TB4 Enclosure on its own bus and I'm guessing it's fine. So, at the end of the day, it's a GREAT enclosure. Compared to my other RAID drives, it's way quieter! Still some fan noise, but way more tolerable than my Sans Digital 2 bay RAID. The TB4 Enclosure sleeps and wakes with the iMac - Nice!. You do get the SoftRAID software, which is pretty nice. The only issue there is the drives do not show up in the Storage tab of the About this Mac window. So you have to do a Get Info on the drive from the Finder window to see how much storage is available on the drive.Lastly, if you do have an iMac Pro, be sure to contact tech support when you set up the drive. Apple has installed some unique security settings on the iMac Pro that need changed. OWC will be happy to walk you through the fix.Hope that helps.

Q: 8. My actual SR version is the 7, but I need to update to 8. How much free SoftRAID time do I get if I buy this unit?

A: The OWC ThunderBay 4 4-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID 5 Enclosure comes with a permanent version of SoftRAID.

Q: 9. how do u check raid in this for bad sectors? i usually run apple disk utility and secure erase 2x on individ drives but what about RAIDS? i no see option for that on apple DUtility.

A: Apple Disk Utility should not be used with the OWC ThunderBay 4 4-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Enclosure. You would need to use the free SoftRaid software to manage and maintain the unit.

Q: 10. In lieu of SoftRAID, can another software be loaded? Like TrueNAS for instance?

A: Yes, you can use another RAID software on this OWC ThunderBay 4 4-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Enclosure.

I use this with my Nikon D60 for any tripod photo where I need to shade the lens, hold a reflector or be in the picture myself. This is pretty often. For me, it's a 'must have' accessory. I can't comment on durability past the few hundred shots I've taken with it thus far. It works fine from at least 15 feet away.

very handy. IR so you have to sort be in front of it and try to take the picture without getting yourself in the picture. or works great when taking pictures with you in it. Just make sure the picture doesn't show the remote in your hands!!! :P

I use this device while the cam is on a tripod and snapping a long exposure shot or HDR shot...also I do Rolling automotive photography so i use it while the camera near the road and its a low shot. The things that are great about this remote is that its lightweight, last a long while on the one battery, and its quick. The only thing I would say that isn't good about it would be that it doesn't operate the rest of the camera.

This thing is just plain nice to have. This is particularly true when you want to eliminate any human-induced camera shake or vibration. Just get it; you'll be happy to have it your bag.

I was wondering if I really needed this, I could have used the self timer instead. But this little tool proved to be a good purchase.

I use the ML-L3 for the main reason it was made, to get the photographer in the picture. Yes it is true that you can't use it if you are behind the camera, but if you bought if for that reason, take a look at the MC-DC1, assuming that it works for your camera.

It takes every shot from about 10 feet away (not tested outside yet). I am very happy with this purchase! It is a little (very small in size) giant (does a great work)!!!
