Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I just purchased Zoom H1n. What In-Ear-Monitor impedance rating(ohms)should I use?

A: The H1n has a rated output level of 20 mW + 20 mW into 32Ω.

Q: 2. Where are the 2 inputs that allow two tracks?

A: The Zoom H1n 2-Input / 2-Track Portable Handy Recorder with Onboard X/Y Microphone has a stereo 1/8" / 3.5 mm TRS Female Unbalanced Line/Mic Input.

Q: 3. How does this recorder compare to the Tascam DR-05?

A: Audio can be a very subjective thing, but I would have to say I like the sound of the Zoom H1n a little better, and also find it easier to use.

Q: 4. When you use the HOLD on the Zoom H1n, will it prevent the rotary dial from changing the input level?I have FOUR Zoom H1 recorders and use them to record with lav mics. I plug the lav into the Zoom H1, set the record level, start recording, then use the HOLD function and the recorder gets put into a pocket, etc. I'd hate to have the input level change because the knob gets moved while in someone's pocket. Also, I wish it was USB-C instead of microUSB, but that's not a big issue. The other thing I've really been wishing for in the Zoom H1 recorder is a SAFETY TRACK , so when I'm recording with a lav mic (which is mono), the LEFT channel will record at the level I set, and the RIGHT channel will be a few dB lower; allowing me to rescue anything that may have clipped. Basically asynchronous input levels, since I don't really need stereo for a lav mic.

A: When HOLD is used, the rotary dial is still active and the input level still be changed. Hopefully this potential issue can be addressed and fixed with a firmware update. Firmware updates are constantly being done to improve performance and quirks (based on consumer feedback).

Q: 5. What is the difference between grey and black? Unusual 40 dollar disparity

A: It is a cosmetic difference.

Q: 6. Will this record to the internal SD card and connect as a USB audio interface at the same time?

A: No, it will not record to both a microSD card and pass audio via the interface mode at the same time.

Q: 7. I want to use it to record a human voice. What are the best settings for the best sound results? I don't care how efficient the recording is.

A: Using WAV format at 96 kHz/24-bit will give you the best audio quality for recording. WAV format is going to provide much better audio quality than MP3. You can either set the input level manually or use the automatic level adjustment to allow the recorder to automatically adjust the input level. You can also choose to use the built-in mic or use an external microphone with the Zoom H1n.

Q: 8. Will this battery work with these lights?a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1081003-REG/genaray_spectroled_360_bi_color_led.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1081003-REG/genaray_spectroled_360_bi_color_led.html/aThese batteries operate normally at 14.8v but the lights say they can be used with 12-14.4v. Sorry if the answer to this question is as obvious as it seems.

A: This will work just fine with the Genaray SpectroLED. We even have a few other battery and power solutions with a 14.8v rating listed for the light. That is just a nominal rating for the battery, it will not cause any damage to the light if you use a battery that is slightly higher.

Q: 9. Does that dial at the top 0-10 have click stops or is it continuous? We've had problems with Zoom volume controls staying in place.

A: The volume dial on the Zoom H1n is continuous.

Q: 10. I use a Microphone Madness MM-MSLM Omnidirectional MatchStick Lapel Microphone (Black) with the Zoom H1N. Are there any adapters that I should have between the two or can the mic just plug into the recorder?

A: You will probably need the Rode SC3 3.5mm TRRS to TRS Adapter for smartLav in order to plug a lapel mic into the unit.
