Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Where is this lens manufactured?

A: In Thailand

Q: 2. Is this compatible with the Sony A7SII?

A: This is my default walking-around lens for my A7sii. I wish it was a little more compact, but it shoots really nice images, especially when I use the lens compensation in Lightroom. I wish it had manual aperture on the lease and a AF/MF switch, but no complaints otherwise.Hard to go wrong for the price.

Q: 3. Does this lens require a thin UV filter, such as the B+W Nano filters to avoid vignetting or is it fine with regular thickness filters?

A: Nope. I use a standard thickness polarizer and have not had any issues with vignetting.

Q: 4. But, if I have Sony A7S2, can I zoom?

A: With any prime lense you cannot zoom, but the quality is that much better.

Q: 5. Would this work on a Sony NEX 3N? Also, how does it compare to the SEL35F18?

A: Just to correct: better check what camera you have. The Nex 3 3c etc. are APS C cameras, not four thirds; there was a 5n which is a 16megapixel aps c camera. The lens will fit all of these cameras, but the APS C camera sensors are only half the size of the image the lens is designed to produce so a lot of the image is wasted. The Sony Zeiss 24mm f1.8 is a wonderful little lens, designed for the APS- Emounts. I have it and love it. But remember as you figure the field of view, that an APS C camera gets coverage out of a lens comparable to a full frame camera with a focal length of 1.5 more. i.e. a 24 mm aps c lens has the same field of view as a 36 mm full frame.

Q: 6. Is the focusing/aperture action on the FE 28/2 louder than other FE lenses? Or is this unique to the used copy I just purchased? Focusing at f2.0, my copy is surprisingly loud with a bit of vibration/roughness. Its similar to screw drive lenses. Considerably less stealth than any of the other FE lenses I've used (55/1.8, 90/2.8, 28-70 kit). I'm considering returning it, but wonder if another (new) copy would be similar. Others have a similar impression? Any thoughts appreciated.

A: I just tested mine and it is nearly silent - certainly no louder than my 35 or 55, in fact a touch quieter than the 35, but all are very quiet.

Q: 7. Im looking into purchasing a ND filter for this lens on my a7sii so I can shoot in slog2 in the daytime without having over exposure issues. What size filter would be purchased?

A: I use a 49mm UV filter on my lens. Im sure the ND filter would be the same size.

Q: 8. How good is this lens for video on Sony A6000, given that it does not have optical image stabilisation?

A: The build quality and picture/video quality is amazing. Because the a6000 is a crop sensor, this 28mm acts as a 42mm equivalent. On a tripod or in steady hands the lens is fine. If you're running around (with any lens) with no stabilization, you will produce a shaky image. Another thing to consider is the digital accelerated focus ring. If you will be using this on a rig with a follow focus system, keep shopping. This focus system makes it nearly impossible to do rack focusing or replicate a previous shot. To recap: on a tripod or in steady hands shooting mostly still subjects, this lens produces a wonderful image but, for other video purposes I would not recommend this lens.

Q: 9. This is a good lens for the sony at 6500 would use it in video, have active all the functions of autofocus and stabilizer ???

A: Pienso que si debe funcionar el autofocus, yo le utilizo con la a7SII y va muy bien

Q: 10. Is this lens good for video?

A: This lens would work for video, yes.
