This electronic download of the 4030 Retro Compressor Native v6 - Compressor Plug-In from McDSP features a dynamic range control topology coupled with a wet/dry mix control to balance compressed and uncompressed signals. An active attack and release design allows aggressive compression settings with minimal artifact generation. The plug-in uses an output stage topology designed to eliminate digital clipping at any output level and produce a smoother distortion characteristic.

The Native plug-in provides AAX-Native for use with Pro Tools, but also includes Audiosuite, Audio Units and VST versions for use with other DAWs including Logic, Digital Performer (DP), Cubase, and Ableton Live.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this supply phantom power?

A: I doubt that it supplies phantom power as it appears to be intended only for line level circuits, not mics. the selection choice is between pro (+4) and consumer (-10) levels for the rear panel XLRs

Q: 2. Can this device be made to stay in Super Nice mode across power cycles?

A: Settings will not be remembered in the case of a power failure or a power reset. NORMAL MODE: Mode Selection This mode is selected upon power up of the RNC. If the SUPER NICE indicator lamp is extinguished, then NORMAL MODE is selected. SUPER N ICE MODE Mode Selection: This mode must be manually selected by depressing the SUPER NICE switch until the SUPER NICE indicator lamp is on.

Q: 3. Can the outputs be mapped for 5.1 monitoring?

A: This interface cannot be mapped for 5.1 monitoring.

Q: 4. Do these have connections for digital output

A: There is no digital I/O. All of the connections are analog.

Q: 5. how long does the battery last?

A: This is not a documented specification. Battery life will be dependent upon the volume setting and the quality of battery used.

Q: 6. Is this backwards compatible with USB 3.0/2.0?

A: comes with standard usb yes

Q: 7. Does this just help in recordings, or is there a clear difference in live speaking as well?

A: I use it for recording only, but I believe it would work as well for live speaking as well. The adjusted sound would just go directly to speakers instead of the recorder.

Q: 8. would an audio gate alone control help in a 4mic clip on mic situation that is very interactive?

A: First of all the gate function is designed to keep the signal muted until a level you choose to open the channel. This would not help the clip at all. If, on the other hand if you were to use the compressor side of the dbx you may be able to adjust the input and output to eliminate the clipping altogether. I would suggest adjusting the output of each channel so each channel will not exceed the headroom on the mixer, then send the combined signal into the dbx and use the compressor to clamp down on the signal a bit. There is training available for this. I am using my 266xs to make a talk show with four funny ladies, who laugh a lot and loudly fit into the available headroom while recording for broadcast. without the compressor the laughing just clips so badly the recordings are not able to be used.

Q: 9. Will this work with other Manufacturers' Cameras?

A: Yes, the Digital Watchdog Compressor 16-Channel HD and Legacy Analog to IP Signal Encoder will work with other camera brands.

Q: 10. 110 Volt and 220 Volt?

A: Yes. The Warm Audio BUS-COMP 2-Channel VCA Bus Compressor does have switchable voltage settings. There is a voltage switch on the back that allows you to select either 115 or 230V.
