The 100mm is a fixed focal length lens so you change what is in the picture by moving the camera closer or farther away. The 18-55mm can be used to zoom in and out to get the picture that you want. A flash is very nice for indoor photos because it supplements the available light. You can also do this by changing the ISO setting and making your camera more sensitive to the existing light. I have this lens and a flash. If you can afford both that is ideal.
