The Quantum FreeXwire QLINK for Canon is a great way to create a mini-studio of Canon remote-controlled flashes. Take any number of Canon shoe-mount flashes, each fitted with a FreeXwire receiver and add a QLINK. Using your Quantum Pilot or TRIO flash on your camera as the master (controller), you can not only wirelessly trigger the flashes, but control their output from -3 stops to +2 stops. Alternately, you can set each flash to Auto and let the remote flash determine its own exposure.

Q: 1. With these 2 receivers, its possible from transmitter to give different EV values to each flash? Ex. On my 430-exII main light I want to stay zero. On my another 430-exII as rim, I want - 2/3.

A: No, that would not work. The Vello FreeWave Captain Wireless TTL triggers do not allow different groups, so all flashes on the off-camera remotes would have any EV changes set equally on all off-camera flashes. You would need to purchase a wireless trigger system that allows you to place different flashes in different groups for your stated usage needs.

Q: 2. Will this trigger work with a LumoPro LP180 flash?

A: Technically it should work. But the wireless sync is for TTL and that flash is manual.Best is to attach the flash to the receiver through the sync port and not the shoe. The Non-TTL version would be a better option, Vello FreeWave LR Wireless Flash Trigger and Receiver Kit B&H # VERFWLR MFR # RFW-LR.

Q: 3. I can trigger remotely my Canon Rebel Xs using the transmitter on my hand but I also need to fire up an off-camera speedlite. If I purchase an additional transmitter would I be able to trigger remotely the camera as well as the remote flash?

A: The transmitter wont fire you camera only the flash. If you have a remote trigger for the cam and the transmitter in the hot shoe then the flash will fire when you take a photo.

Q: 4. Will this work with the new canon EOS 80D?

A: It should, I've used it with a 5d and a 40d.

Q: 5. Can you still use the ev adjustment in full manual on the flash?

A: Yes you can change the settings on the flash by 1/3rd stops but in any mode you have the trigger set to the off camera flash needs to be set to TTL.

Q: 6. Does this trigger system allow for the user to adjust the power of the flash on the transceiver or do you have to go and do it on each speed light?

A: Yes but only globally. You have a plus or minus 3 stop range but you cannot vary one alone. No group control.

Q: 7. The manual for the Basic version of this product and some other Freewave products indicate that holding the shutter release longer than 3 seconds in Bulb, will cause the shutter to remain open until the release button is pressed again. The manuals for the RFW-N and the VCTTL-N (this product) indicate that the shutter remains open so long as the button is depressed. I am looking for some confirmation that this is how they really work and the three second option to keep the shutter open doesn't work. Is that the case?

A: Yes, when using the mechanism to trigger the camera the amount of time you hold the button is how long the shutter stays open for. So if I hold the button on the transmitter for 1, 2, 3, 4 or 10 seconds that's how long the shutter stays open. It does not take a second button push to close the shutter after 3 seconds. So depending on your scenario this could be good or bad. With that said I would tend to suggest having both an item like this plus the Vello Shutter Boss. Wired or Wireless are relatively inexpensive. It just allows you to do more stuff in the long run. But again it really depends on what your use will be.I use a Canon 5D Mark II and a 50D with both

Q: 8. Will it work with Sigma EF-610 Super DG flash gun in ETTL and manual modes?Thank you.

A: the freeway Captain, works great, i use canon, and yes works whit manual an ETTL, look in the specs if is compatible for your sigma flash gun, because there is a freewave captain for canon and another for nikon.

Q: 9. Does this kit work with non Canon speedlites?

A: The kit works only with Canon speedlights, however there are FreeWave Captain kits that are compatible with other speedlight manufacturers. Please contact us at info@gradusgroup.com for more information.

Q: 10. Will my Sekonic L-478DR trigger these units just like the pocketWizards?

A: No, the Pocketwizards and the Vello wireless sync use different frequencies. And the meter only works with Pocketwizards if you want to use the meter to set off the flashes wirelessly.
