The Heliopan 28mm #8 Medium Yellow Filter is a basic contrast filter, primarily for use with black and white film, that slightly darkens skies, helps to cut through haze, and improves overall contrast. It is the most common contrast filter for black and white photography, producing an accurate tonal range and compensating for the blue sensitivity of panchromatic film. There is a 2.5-3x filter factor with this filter, requiring an increase of 1.3 to 1.5 stops for normal exposure.

The front and rear surfaces of the filter both feature a single anti-reflection coating. Each coating helps to increase light transmission by reducing reflections, scattered light, and ghosting. Additionally, they offer protection to the filter substrate while helping to keep the glass clean for longer than uncoated glass.

This Heliopan filter is constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. It features a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. On a Sony a6000 series camera how does the image quality of this lens compare to that of the Sony Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 lens?

A: Both lenses will give you excellent image quality. It really depends if you could use the half stop more of light the 1.8 gives you over 2.0 and if you prefer a little bit of a wider shot. If you said yes to both of these, then the Zeiss will be your better option.

Q: 2. How fast is the auto focus when shooting video on the As7ii? I want to use this lens on a gimbal so need pretty good auto focus.

A: We know of no issues regarding the focus on this lens.

Q: 3. Is the 28mm f2 weather sealed?

A: Yes the Sony 28 mm F2 lens is dust and moisture sealed.

Q: 4. Is the focusing/aperture action on the FE 28/2 louder than other FE lenses? Or is this unique to the used copy I just purchased? Focusing at f2.0, my copy is surprisingly loud with a bit of vibration/roughness. Its similar to screw drive lenses. Considerably less stealth than any of the other FE lenses I've used (55/1.8, 90/2.8, 28-70 kit). I'm considering returning it, but wonder if another (new) copy would be similar. Others have a similar impression? Any thoughts appreciated.

A: I just tested mine and it is nearly silent - certainly no louder than my 35 or 55, in fact a touch quieter than the 35, but all are very quiet.

Q: 5. Where is this lens manufactured?

A: In Thailand

Q: 6. This is a good lens for the sony at 6500 would use it in video, have active all the functions of autofocus and stabilizer ???

A: Pienso que si debe funcionar el autofocus, yo le utilizo con la a7SII y va muy bien

Q: 7. How quiet is the lens when focusing? Can you hear it in a silent room or on the microphone?

A: This makes very little noise when focusing. It may be picked by the microphone or heard in a silent room, but it is very close to being silent.

Q: 8. Does this lens support the steadyshot image stabilization when on an a6000?

A: No. And this is not the lens you would want for an A 6000. Quick Lesson. Steady Shot or image stabilization (IS) is a feature added to a camera, either in the body (In Body Image Stabilization (IBIS)) or in the lens itself. The A 6000 does not have IBIS so you have to rely on purchasing lenses that do have it. For example, my favorite for my NEX 7 is the F 4 16-70 zoom that does have IS. (Note, the different manufacturers call image stabilization by different names. VR is Nikon. OSS is Sony, etc. If you want a pretty high quality prime with OSS made for the A6000 then the Sony F 1.8 50 mm OSS is the lens you want. Or wait til Sony comes out with an APS C camera that has IBIS ---

Q: 9. Thinking of putting this lens on my A7ii for use on a gimbal. Question 1: with the lens wide open, is the auto focus smooth and accurate enough to get good results following a moving person? Question 2: Will a variable ND filter fit on the lens along with the lens hood? Thanks very much.

A: Hi James, yes. The autofocus is smooth and accurate with the lens/aperture is wide open. -Anthony

Q: 10. does this lens have a manual override?

A: The unit does not have a physical switch but you will be able to go manual once set on the body.
