Q: 1. I have a Minolta 500mm f8 Reflex AF ‘lens’. This mirror lens auto-focuses and was magnificent. How will the LA-EA5 support it?

A: According to Sony, yes, the Minolta AF Reflex 500mm f/8 lens would be compatible for use with the Sony LA-EA5 A-Mount to E-Mount Adapter.

Q: 2. Is this now compatible with A7III? I’m finding conflicting info.

A: The reason the information is conflicting is because the adapter works with well with only certain lenses. It either works really well or doesn't work at all depending on the lens you're using. For example I did a number of tests with an A7III using several A-mount lenses. Test 1 - A7III with 70-300mm G SSM II It works as intended. You have access to AF-S / AF-C. It accurately focuses and gives no issues. Test 2- A7III with 135mm F/1.8 ZA Sonnar and 85mm F/1.4 ZA Doesn't work. Manual focus only. Test 3 - A7III with 16-35mm 2.8 ZA SSM II Doesn't work again. Test 4 - A7III with 24-70mm 2.8 ZA // 70-200mm // 70-400 It works as intended. You have access to AF-S / AF-C. It accurately focuses and gives no issues. So as you can see here, it works with particular lenses. On Sony's website it shows every lens as "limited functionality". I cannot pinpoint what works and what doesn't. It's inconsistent. So if you have a 24-70mm // 70-200mm // 70-400 or 70-300 G it works the way it should, but if you have other lenses it's a hit or miss.

Q: 3. Currently what bodies support screw drive lenses with the la-ea5?

A: According to Sony, it depends on your specific lens model and the camera body combination as to whether you would retain autofocus capability with your particular screw-mount lens. Sony states that as there is no "one-size-fits-all" answer to your inquiry, it is best to contact them directly with the lens models you own and the camera body you own or are considering purchasing so they can check your specific camera/lens combination with the LA-EA5 lens mount adapter. You may contact Sony either by calling them at 1-239-245-6360 or by using the Live Chat feature on the support page of their website.

Q: 4. I have the A7III and also the Sony A mount 135mm f1.8 and the Minolta 200mm f4 macro. What is the likelihood that this adapter will be modified to allow me to autofocus these lenses?

A: No, neither the Sony Sonnar T* 135mm f/1.8 ZA Lens nor the Minolta AF 200mm f/4 Macro APO G lens would retain autofocus when used with the Sony LA-EA5 lens mount adapter on the Sony Alpha a7 III Mirrorless Digital Camera.

Q: 5. Will this adapter work, mounted on a sony a7c camera, with a sony 70-400mm f/4-5.6 G SAL-70400G lens? What functions could potentially be lost?

A: This Sony LA-EA5 A-Mount to E-Mount Adapter BH #SOLAEA5 will work on a Sony a7C Mirrorless Camera. Theoretically, Focal Plane Phase Detection AF, AF/AE Tracking up to 2.5 FPS and autofocus function of the Sony 70-400mm f/4-5.6 G SSM II Lens BH #SO704004G2 will work.

Q: 6. Will the LA-EA5 work on my A7RII?

A: This adapter will definitely work to mount an A mount lens onto the A7R II.

Q: 7. I have several minolta lenses that I've used on my Sony A77b and my A65. I have used all my a mount lenses with the older la-ea4 adapter. Can I use the Sony LA-EA5 A-Mount to E-Mount Adapter with those lenses on my a6000 and my a6500 ?? Please let me know because I would like to buy the newer adapter. Is it also lighter and faster??

A: This adapter can still work with older models such as the A6000 and A6500.

Q: 8. It will work with Sigma 24-70 2.8 DG HSM A-mount?

A: While this adapter does allow A mount lenses to work on a Sony E mount body, it has not been specifically tested with the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG HSM with an A mount. Your results may vary.

Q: 9. I have TAMRON A-MOUNT lenses ... 17-50mm & 70 / 200mm Does it work on Automatic with this Brand ...?

A: Sony, does not test the Sony LA-EA5 A-Mount to E-Mount Adapter with third party lenses. So the Tamron lenses might not work. And the Sony lenses listed that work are at this links with some limitations, https://bit.ly/3AZCeNQ

Q: 10. I have a Sony A7RII and a 70-400 SSM G2. Attached to a 2x TC and an LA-EA4, it allows for only manual focus. Does the LA-EA5 add autofocus functionality to the 2xTC under this setup? And if so, with how many phase detection focus points?

A: No, AF is not supported for teleconverters.
