The Heliopan Bay 2 Circular Polarizer Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

The filter ring is constructed out of matte black brass, which provides durability and further prevention from glare. They also feature high quality Schott glass for greater optical clarity and color fidelity. The Bay 2 mount is compatible with the Rollei-specific TLR bayonet lens mount.

Helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection off of a non-metallic surface.

Polarizing filters arrange, and filter, directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of the light.

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.

Strongest effect when used at a 90° from the sun.

Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.

Durable brass ring construction and Schott glass for optical clarity.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How do I turn off the alarm sounding every time the RAID synchronizes?

A: The mute button is located on the far right of where the buttons are located. You can find it on page 10 in the manual:a href= http://static.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/103819.pdf target= _blank http://static.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/103819.pdf/a

Q: 2. Are the screws required to attach a drive included with the enclosure?

A: The OWC ThunderBay 4 mini 4-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Array and Drive Enclosure includes required hardware to mount the drives.

Q: 3. does the fan run constantly?

A: The OWC ThunderBay 4 mini 4-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Array and Drive Enclosure's fan operates according to a specific temperature regulation system. While the fan may occasionally shut off during periods of lower drive activity, it is programmed to restart automatically when the temperature increases, ensuring optimal cooling and performance for your drives.

Q: 4. When using RAID 10 (aka 1+0), what can be done with the fifth drive? I'm leaning towards two units; both RAID 10. First unit will be a main working unit and I'd like the fifth drive to be a hot-spare. Second unit will be my backup unit and I want the fifth drive to be available to copy certain critical files to (I'll then swap it out with a blank drive and take the filled drive to an offsite backup location). Over time, I'll keep trading the fifth drives when updating the offsite backup. Thank you. Side note: I've downloaded the various documentation from LaCie, but have not found any details on RAID 10 configurations.

A: Not certain that the hot spare can actively be used. While not invalid, using the second unit as backup seems very conservative. Also your backup unit should have more capacity than your primary to allow for file variations and history. You could use the 2nd version in Raid 0 configuration or use a simpler JBod enclosure. As for the offsite backup - a pair of simple Lacie Rugged drives that you alternate seem to be more cost effective and easier to handle.

Q: 5. I want to know why the 30TB is FASTER than the 10TB? Is the difference in hardware beyond simply using 5x2TB drives or 5x6TB drives??? Can you please explain? I was thinking about purchasing the 10TB and then upgrading the drives myself at a later time. What are your thoughts? Thank you!

A: Disk capacity does have an influence on the speed of an array. The 5Big chassis is the same for both the 10, and 30TB configurations. Personally I would purchase the higher capacity if you either need the speed, or if you think the full capacity will be needed in the future. It is a pain at a minimum to backup an array to change the drives.

Q: 6. In Raid 5, if a drive fails, what is the process to rebuild back to where you were before the failure?

A: Through software drive will tell you which drive is bad, hardware will indicate by flashing red or something. You then swap it out with a new drive exactly the same size and brand and then wait for a very very long time, sometimes several days for it to completely to rebuild. This is true for all RAID5 drives not just this one. But I would stay away from LaCie altogether, Ive had issues with several LaCie products over the years. I purchased two of these 30TB drives and sent them both back because the specs are mislabeled by the company. When the first drive wasnt running up to spec support claimed that the drive must be bad. I sent it back and ordered another from a different vendor and the issue was the same. Through several days of back and forth LaCie tech support we were finally able to get the drive to run up to spec for a very brief time and this was ONLY if the drive was completely empty and only on the data write side, the read side was never better than 3/4 of the spec, and the read side the important side for me because I need to play back 4K video. The turnaround time including receiving, returning and getting credited back my money for the first drive and then doing it all over ended up costing me about 2 months time. Imagine how infuriating it was to be grossly mislead by the LaCie engineers (tech support) telling me that it was an issue with the hardware and letting me go through the same process twice. I mean they know what the product can do and what I needed to do, I was confused as how they thought they were going to get away with it? Suspiciously there was an update to the firmware while I was going through the second round with them but this did not solve the issue.

Q: 7. Can i use usb c type that is not thunderbolt ?

A: Yes, you would be able to use USB C on this SanDisk Professional G-RAID Shuttle 4 48TB 4-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Array (4 x 12TB) BH #SAPH34H048TN • MFR #SDPH34H-048T-NBAAB.

Q: 8. Can I plug two macbooks into this and edit off both of them at the same time from the two USB-C ports?

A: No, the SanDisk Professional G-RAID Shuttle 4 96TB 4-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Array (4 x 24TB) can only be used with one computer at a time.

Q: 9. I have a 2014 IMac 5k 27 inch. Will the thunderbolt cable work with this machine? Does it come with a usb compatible cable?

A: Because your 2014 27" 5K iMac has Thunderbolt 2 ports and the SanDisk Professional G-RAID Shuttle 4 24TB 4-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Array (4 x 6TB) uses Thunderbolt 3 (and has its own power supply), you could use a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter, like the Apple Thunderbolt 3 Male to Thunderbolt 2 Female Adapter (B&H APMMEL2AMA), and a Thunderbolt 2 cable to connect this RAID device to your iMac.

Q: 10. Would this system be good for editing video with 4 - 4k edit stations attached ?

A: Yes, this unit is purpose built for high speed workgroup access, but requires the correct infrastructure to do so.
