Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Is this system compatible with the LumoPro LP180? I know the LP180R models have the Odin system built in
A: Unfortunately, the LP180 is not compatible with the Odin II Flash Trigger.
Q: 2. Can I use this item, instead of westcott's sony adapter?
A: This Vello HSA-CSMSA only allows conversion from a Sony Multi-Interface Shoe to an older Sony/Minolta shoe to use older Sony flash units. The Westcott Sony Adapter for FJ-X2m Flash Trigger allows the standard foot of the Westcott FJ80 flash to fit on a Sony Multi-Interface Shoe.
Q: 3. I have an Odin II for Sony. I use a Sony A99 camera. I have 2 Strato II receivers. I can press the test button on the Odin II and the Flashes operate. However, when I take picture, the flashes do not fire. I have the camera in Fill Flash mode and the flashes are set to manual mode at full power. What is preventing the camera from operating the flashes through the camera mounted Odin II?
A: i had the same problem when i bought my odin 2. go to the phottix website and download the most recent software update and follow the how to steps to upgrade your transmitter. you will not be able to control the power level of your flash from the odin 2 with the stratto receivers though. you will need odin 1 receivers to take advantage of that.
Q: 4. What are the receivers compatible ttl and that allow zoom to work on SB-910?
A: Odin and Odin II. The Odin I does it automatically. The Odin II allows you to set any zoom setting at the push of a button. All settings are viewable from the screen.
Q: 5. What is the max FPS this transmitter is capable of?
A: fps is more a factor of the camera. Assuming you are using flash. If not, I would look at the Strato. If flash is in the exposure, and it is fired at a manually controlled level, the camera shutter max is 1/250. Plus time for shutter recycle. You might get 3 frames per second. If Auto, all of the preflash and calculating triggering to provide the proper exposure slows that down. Then there is the recycle time of the flashes in use. Not a lot is the only answer I can offer.
Q: 6. Does it control and work with Phottix's own Laso receivers?
A: No. Unit will only work with the following systems Odin, Strato II, and Atlas II, Indra, Mitros, units.
Q: 7. Will this allow me to use a Godox xt1s‘ TTL functionality on a Minolta maxxum 7?
A: Due to the age of the older (discontinued) Minolta MAXXUM 7 35mm film camera and that older film cameras used a different TTL system from digital cameras, I cannot guarantee that you would have TTL automatic flash exposure when using the Godox X1T-S TTL Wireless Flash Trigger Transmitter for Sony on the Minolta MAAXXUMA 7 35mm Film SLR Camera. However, the Vello HSA-CSASM Sony/Minolta to Sony Multi-Interface Shoe Adapter, B&H # VEHSACSASM, would be the correct accessory for your usage needs. It should work for manual flash usage, and it may work for TTL usage. However, if it does not, do note that there would be a 30-Day Return Policy (subject to the terms & conditions on the Return Policy webpage on the bottom of our website). You would be able to contact our Customer Service Department to return the item for an exchange or refund.
Q: 8. I only have groups a-c on my device. No d or e. Am I doing something wrong or is this not working correctly?
A: The original Odin had 4 channels and 3 Groups. On the Odin II, you need to advance the channel number to 5 or higher to get all Groups. You also need the newer Odin II receivers to catch the signals D and E. Turn ON. Then press the ON/MENU button for to get to menu. Advance channel to 5 or higher. The groups can be turned ON and OFF so that you only view the Group information for the groups you are using.
Q: 9. Hi, Are there any advantages in using this trigger, instead of buying 2 Mitros+ flashes, using one as trigger and other as receiver? does the stand alone trigger have extra functions or better range or is it just the same? thanl you :)
A: Looking for a short answer. Nope. I have 3 Mitros+ and 3 Nikon flashes (started with the Nikons and moved to the Mitros+) Get your flash off your camera to get more directional light. That is how we actually see people and things. (unless you are walking around with one of those headband flashlights. The beauty of the Odin II is SPEED of control and Manual Flash power control. And then then you can use a bunch of flashes (5 in all). Start with one to see dimensionality. Add a second for fill. Adjust the brightness left to right and back and watch the look of the subject change. Add a hair light. A background light. Control everything from the Odin II. It is all about controlling the light. It is smaller and lighter and faster to make changes on. And I can use my Mitros+, and Nikon with receiver or my new Indra500 together. Spend a day playing with this and a bunch of flashes and you can really learn about how light works and how to make it work for you. I love this thing. (that was the short answer).
Q: 10. Does this unit HAVE to be used with a Nikon speed light or can I use a flashpoint 600 watt mono light with it?
A: The Odin II is designed for power control (auto or manual set) of Canon, Nikon and soon Sony flashes on their respective cameras as well as with Phottix'd own Mitros+ and Indra lights. The Odin and Odin II receivers needed to catch the signal from the Odin II transmitter do have jacks to trigger manual flashes like the Flashpoint. If triggering with Channel and Group settings is your need, I recommend looking at the Phottix Strato II. However, if control of up to 5 Nikon flashes in either auto TTL or manual power level control from the top of the camera is your desire. The Odin II is the perfect choice.
