Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the Peak Design Dual Plate and/or Standard Plate work with this 496 tripod head? I have read on the support website that some (but not all) RC2 heads are compatible. Thank you!

A: According to the "Using Peak Design Plates In 3rd Party Tripods" webpage on Peak Design's website, under the "Incompatible Tripod List" section, they state that they have received reports that their Capture plates do not quite work with the Manfrotto ARCA Style tripod heads. While they do have a webpage called "Manfrotto Tripod Compatibility with Peak Design Plates," they do not list the Manfrotto MH496-BHUS ball head as a compatible option on their webpage. If you wish, you may purchase the Dual Plate to test if it will work on your ball head. If it is not compatible, do note you may return the quick release plate for an exchange or a refund.

Q: 2. to clarify, this includes the PL200 plate that comes with the head, plus an extra PL200, so it has 2, right?

A: That is correct!

Q: 3. What’s is the depth of this softbox when open?

A: The depth of the Godox QR-P90T Quick Release Softbox with Bowens Mount (35.4") from the front of the diffusion panel to to the front of the speed ring is 16 inches.

Q: 4. I have a befree with a 490 head. The safety catch is broken. If I buy a 490 or 494, how do I replace the old head?

A: Typically you would unscrew the broken head from the center column and then just screw the new head on to the column. Make sure the panning knob is tight, otherwise the head will just rotate without unscrewing. You may have some set screws on the underside of the center column disc that may need to be backed out.

Q: 5. Does the Peak Design Dual Plate and/or Standard Plate work with this Manfrotto 496 tripod head? I have read on the support website that some (but not all) RC2 heads are compatible with the Dual Plate. Thank you!

A: From previous testing, the Dual Plate fits on RC2-style heads like the Manfrotto 496. :) According to Peak Design's support site/plate comparison page, there doesn't seem to be any discrepancies in compatibilities with the RC2 system. https://support.peakdesign.com/hc/en-us/articles/201291383

Q: 6. What are the differences between the 17.6 lbs and the 22 lbs load capacity versions?

A: Only that one supports 17.6lbs and the other supports up to 22lbs.

Q: 7. Will this work on the legs of a Manfrotto BeFree Carbon (MKBFRC4-BH), in place of the Manfrotto 490 head (MAMH490BH) that it comes with?

A: Yes it will as the attachment thread is the same size.

Q: 8. What is the base diameter?

A: As per Manfrotto, the base diameter of the Manfrotto 496 Center Ball Head is 1.57 inches.

Q: 9. Is it compatible with Manfrotto Element MKELEB5BL-BH?

A: Yes this will work on the Manfrotto Element MKELEB5BL-BH tripod.

Q: 10. Will the Smallrig L-brackets or cages work with this?

A: Smallrig L brackets and cages are Arca-compatible--this head is not, so they would not be compatible with this head.
