Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can the rubber foot of the Benro MAD38A monopod be unscrewed off the foot, then the monopod be attached to the Benro VT2 (3-feet locking base)?

A: I have read on the 3-foot base page that people have used it with the MAD 38A - so I'm confused! There is a tool included that fits the nut holding the included foot on, but I cannot turn it myself to see what the results are. So, there is conflicting information out there (here).

Q: 2. This can be used in Europe too, or its made from USA voltage?

A: This mounting press is USA voltage only.

Q: 3. Does this come with stereoscopic (red and blue) paper glasses or do I need to buy some separately?

A: The book does not list that it comes with any glasses.

Q: 4. Does the this monopod have a removable foot revealing a thread at the bottom? I've seen mixed answers on this with someone claiming the aluminum version does not but another stated the carbon fiber version does. I'd be using this to affix the monopod to the top of a sturdy lightstand for more height. I understand the risks involved and would be standing beneath the unit supporting it at all times. Thanks

A: I have the aluminum version of this tripod. It appears that the ball joint and foot are connected to the bottom of the tripod via a threaded shaft. It takes a wrench to get it off, though, and I have not tried this.

Q: 5. Dimensions?

A: The press without the table outside dimensions is 77 x 57 x 7 . And working area is 44 x 68 x 1 .

Q: 6. The pivot foot is too stiff and makes panning difficult. In soft ground the whole foot grabs the dirt. Any replacement ideas without buying 3 feet?

A: Really the best solution is the Benro 3-Leg Locking Base For Monopods linked here. https://bhpho.to/3fC8c6s. This will grip the ground and then allow for smooth panning. Any solution without 3 feet on the bottom will not have the same panning action.

Q: 7. Can this mount a 17x22 print?

A: You can mount a 17x22" print using the D&K 210M Commercial Dry Mounting Press - 18.5 x 23"--the actual size of the plate is 18.5x23".

Q: 8. can one person move this item

A: The unit weighs close to 75lbs. I would recommend that two people be present to move it. A single strong person could perhaps lift it momentarily if they have the upper body strength, but in general I would not advise to lift that weight alone.

Q: 9. Can I use foam board with the dry mounting press?

A: It looks as though you can mount onto foam core--although we do not do so here. I would keep the temperature on the low side to not melt the foam core-no higher than 185-190? and maybe adjust the pressure if needed. I found the manual online that speaks a little bit to foam core use (but I can't place the link here)And there is a type of foam core that has the adhesive already on it (but I can't place that link here either...): it's called Speed Mount by Bainbridge. It looks like many people have success with foam core--hope this helps!

Q: 10. Can I buy a replacement thermostat for the 210 press?

A: Here is the replacement thermostat for the 210M: https://bhpho.to/3wVPqNR

While there are plenty of books on the market about Macro Photography, none capture anything as detailed as this book goes into. The thought , time, and experimentation that is discussed here is incredible. This is a great book even for people not into photography, but just like seeing artistic photography.
Thanks for sharing your story Don.

Macro 101. Taught by an artist with all the nerdy science and light theories one needs. It reads like a classroom text in a good way. With the basics of macro explained. Then moved on from theory to real life set ups with explaining and then dives into the editing of these masterpieces. Macro is like a different language and this book is the translator. Have fun and get it !

This is one of the most deeply technical books on macro photography I have ever seen. It will take me months to go through it and put into practice a fraction of the concepts. From snowflakes to waterdrops and ultraviolet the details are phenominal.
