Q: 1. Zeiss admitted an issue with the close focus aperture problem as well as with eye-AF, but as of February 2019 I haven’t heard their follow up response yet. Any word?

A: ZEISS is currently developing a software update that will allow the Batis 2/40 CF to work within a large focus range with a wide-open aperture. The update will be available to download free of charge as of April 2019 from the ZEISS website. We will notify all registered customers about the update via email. Once the update is installed, the ZEISS Batis 2/40 CF will only automatically stop down at preset aperture values between f/2 and f/2.5 at a focus distance of between 24 and 65 centimeters – in extreme cases (minimum object distance) to max. f/2.8. With an aperture value of f/2.8 and up, the aperture will remain unchanged across the entire focus range. What’s more, the update will enhance the focus accuracy when using the camera’s eye AF function.

Q: 2. This or the Sigma 40mm 1.4 ?

A: The ZEISS Batis 40mm f/2 CF Lens for Sony E has much better optical quality than the Sigma 40mm f1.4,

Q: 3. Hello work with Canon 5D Mark Iv?

A: I have a Canon 7D and the adapter works well.

Q: 4. Can the distance scale be changed from Meters to Feet?

A: Yes, one can change the distance scale from meters to feet on the ZEISS Batis 40mm f/2 CF Lens for Sony E. The camera needs to be in manual focus mode. You would then turn the focusing ring 360 degrees past the minimum focusing distance.

Q: 5. Is this a US version of the lens with US ZEISS warranty?

A: We do not understand the question. There is only one version of the ZEISS Batis 2/40 CF lens produced for sale worldwide. When this lens is purchased from an authorized ZEISS dealer, the standard warranty of 2-years from the date of purchase applies. If the lens is registered after purchase on the ZEISS website, than an additional one-year of warranty is offered.

Q: 6. Will this adapter work with the Minolta DiMage 7 series cameras?

A: While it may be possible (as the Minolta DiMage 7 can use Type II CompactFlash memory cards, so it will physically fit), I cannot state for certain if the DigiGear Extreme SD-HC-XC to CF Adapter would be compatible for use with your camera. As the camera has been discontinued for over 15 years and is no longer supported, I cannot confirm if it is supported. The best I can state is the card adapter does have a 30-Day Return Policy, so if if does not work for your needs, you may return the card adapter for an exchange or refund.

Q: 7. Autofocus noise it's normal for this lens ? My 25 and 85 Batis no sound when autofocus

A: The Batis lenses use a silent AF motor and there should be noise coming from the lens. If this is the case with your lens, please initiate a service case by going to: https://zeiss.secure.force.com/CZPRepair/?page=1®ion=Americas&area=consumer&lang=EN

Q: 8. Is this compatible with Atomos Ninja Star Pocket-Size ProRes Recorder & Deck?

A: It works with the Canon 1DC

Q: 9. Eye af was solved with Firmware V2. PhillipReeves reviewrs claim it was not, to many miss shot. Can any day to day user confirm or deny that? Thanks

A: Eye AF was improved, but still noticeably misfocused after the firmware. I sold the lens as a result.

Q: 10. Zeiss color, microcontrast are there?:). There are a smallest lens hood for this lens?

A: Yes, the characteristics of the ZEISS Batis 2/40 CF are what you would expect from a ZEISS camera lens and consistent with the other lenses in the Batis family. The lens shade is included with the lens and is designed specifically for the 40mm FOV. It is reversible for storage.
