Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this card capable of realtime downconversion from 4K to HD 1080 for monitoring/Color grading purposes ?

A: Yes, I'm able to output a 1080p signal from a 4K timeline. However, I do not believe the card itself does the conversion, but rather your color software.

Q: 2. Can I use this card to send output via SDI to a Blackmagic Web Presenter 4K using OBS Studio? If so, are there any resolution/frame rate limitations by virtue of the OBS interface less than the capacities of the monitor card or the Web Presenter? Owner/user Brett gave me a great answer about the hardware, but I hadn't specified OBS as my software source.

A: Yes, The Blackmagic Design DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K would allow you to output from SDI to a Web Presenter that has HDMI input. Also this link will help you with Web Presenter setup with OBS. https://bit.ly/3Nzoz3J

Q: 3. Will this work with Avid MC8.5.3 and DnxHR timeline?

A: Basically, we are seeing information that suggests it works. However, we cannot confirm since it depends on your computer and making sure you have the proper drivers. We suggest contacting Blackmagic Design for further information.

Q: 4. Will this send a signal out the HDMI and the SDI simultaneously?

A: Yes it will.

Q: 5. I need to monitor 10 bit 4k on two displays (both support 10 bit 4k) from the same machine. Could I use 2 decklink cards on one system?

A: The software you are housing must support 2 cards. As well as the motherboard bus. If they are the same image use a distribution amplifier to feed the two monitors.

Q: 6. Will this card display a HD tv & HD monitor with hd footage?

A: Yes.

Q: 7. Can I use both ports at the same time?

A: The Blackmagic Design DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K offers simultaneous HDMI and SDI output.

Q: 8. Could this be used to record the program output of Livestreaming software like Wirecast or Livestream Studio?

A: I dont think so, if i recall right it is a playback card only and this model is not equipped with capture features.

Q: 9. can I use this card with an iMac computer?

A: No. Check out Thunderbolt products that may do the same thing.

Q: 10. Will this allow me to color grade HDR in Resolve through the HDMI to my HDR TV? Will I run into an important limitation that I should just upgrade to the next level?Windows 10TV - P65-C1

A: Yes. I use this exact card for HDR grading over the HDMI link. Note however, while my project is setup as 4K/59.94/10bit HDR, the output via this card is exactly half that (because it's limited to 4K/30), so I get 4K/29/97/10bit HDR to the grading monitor - this works perfectly well by skipping exactly every other frame on the grading monitor. The EOTF-2084 data gets through correctly, so the HDR luminance is correctly rendered to a HDR display. However, the thing to be aware of, the color space metadata is NOT sent by the card. Thus, to get the color correct you need to be able to set the color by the OSD on the monitor. I have used these cards with both Asus PA32UCX monitors, these work well and have a lot of color mode settings via the OSD to easily match to the color space you're using in Resolve and also the Asus PG27UQ, this can only be set to sRGB or "Wide Color" which is "Native Panel Gamut" this works as a good setting when you set the Resolve project to BT.2020. Note, with the PG27UQ you can't set the color space when in HDR mode, however, if you set the color space to "Wide" in SDR mode it carries over to HDR mode.
