Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this scanner work with Mac OS? Is the only feature I lose the one touch? Thanks in advance.

A: Works great did all family slides and negatives. Only one touch which i did not use.

Q: 2. How One Touch is the one touch feature?I want to scan thousands of slides to high-res tiffs and later software fix the ones of most interest to me.I assume there will be some initial setup and configuration time. But once this initial setup is done, can I mindlessly feed slides in and push the big button?

A: The Quick Scan button will do auto-adjustments, like auto-exposure.. It is not used as a custom-adjustment that saves the settings for batch scans.

Q: 3. is it auto feed or hand feed?

A: It is hand fed.Has slide holder with place for four mounted slidesand a neg holder for one strip up to 6 images per strip. You pop it in, preview, scan and then manually move it on to the next frame.

Q: 4. Will this scan Kodak Kodaslide stereo slides. I.e. will a stereo slide fit into the 35mm slide carrier?

A: No, the film carriers for the Plustek OpticFilm 8200i SE Film Scanner would not hold the stereo slides properly. You would need to unmount those in order to scan. Or there may be 3rd party holders out there that would work, though we do not carry any currently.

Q: 5. Can you do batch scanning with 35mm slides? I want to just be able to insert the slide, push a button and have it scan all the negatives on it's won, instead of doing it one by one.

A: It does not have an auto feed. You have to advance each frame manually.

Q: 6. Is this scanner compatible with macOS Monterey?

A: No. The following unit is not compatible with Monterey.

Q: 7. Is there a way to turn off the auto adjust features so b/w film negatives will scan "as is?" I have a cheap film scanner that automatically sets the black and white points so the histogram for the resulting image file always ranges from 0 to 100%. If, for example, I scan a negative with density values of 50-100%, I want the image file to contain values of 50-100%. I hope this makes sense. Thanks.

A: Yes. All auto adjustments and manual adjustment can be driven using the SilverFast se plus 8 application software that comes included with the scanner.

Q: 8. Is the lens weather sealed?

A: The Nikon 28mm f/2.8 NIKKOR Z Lens (SE) has Dust- and Moisture- Sealed Construction.

Q: 9. Can you save directly to an SD card instead of using software and computer?

A: No, it's a strict scanner for pos & negs. It won't even work without using the proper/enclosed software via a suitable computer. It saves to a file on your computer hard drive, or as per demand, from where you can put it an any 'hard media', such as a SD card via an inexpensive card reader. Or an expensive, faster one for that matter. Most computer/laptops, however these days come with a USB port, so you could save your images here without further expenditure, on a USB stick. But image back-up on you computer is always a safer way to preserve important images. You can scan/save in TIF or JPG images. Jim Schultz, Kelmscott, Western Australia

Q: 10. Does this OpticFilm model 8200i SE really come with the SilverFast SE Plus 8 Software? I've heard reports that it actually does NOT ship with some of the OpticFilm models. I'm very seriously thinking of ordering this unit. Thanks!

A: The OpticFilm 8200i SE Film Scanner includes SilverFast SE Plus 8 with it.
