The 77mm Carl ZEISS T* Circular Polarizer Filter from ZEISS helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. A polarizer is able to absorb much of this polarized light and, in turn, increase the saturation of skies and foliage, cut through distant haze, and minimize reflections in glass and on water.

A circular polarizer differs from a linear polarizer in that it integrates a quarter wave plane within a linear polarizing filter. The addition of this helps to circularly polarize reflected light, which enables your camera's autofocus and auto-exposure mechanisms to function properly.

The T* anti-reflective coating helps to reduce reflections on the filter's surface and promote a better light transmission for high quality imagery. The filter ring is designed with a slim profile to allow its use on wide angle lenses, but front filter threads are still available for the use of additional filters.

Helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface.

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.

Strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.

Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.

T* anti-reflective helps to reduce surface reflections in order to produce greater light transmission for a higher quality image.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the aperture close as you turn the ring (makes manual focus at high f-numbers difficult), or does the aperture only close to the selected size when you press the shutter release (like an SLR)?

A: It closes as you turn the ring. Unlike an slr though you have focus magnify (which can kick in automatically when you turn the ring if you want) and focus peaking, so the manual focussing operation does not require an open aperture to make it easier. With a 35mm lens at smaller apertures there'll be a reasonable depth of field anyway. I always focus at the aperture I am going to use, no issues.

Q: 2. Does this lens remain at F2 on the A6300 body?

A: Whilst these answers on here are 'correct' when people ask me this question I like to remind them that the lens won't behave like an F2 on crop either. The depth of field appears to increase also. For example this lens on a 1.5 crop body would have a field of view of 25 * 1.5 but also the depth would be affected also. It'd act aesthetically like an (f2* 1.5) also. Just thought id add that as no one else seems to notice or tell people

Q: 3. Just watched the B&H overview of the Batis lenses. Why aren't these lenses good for video? Do they offer the option of manual focusing?

A: Like most autofocus lenses for the Sony A7, the Batis 25/2 is focus-by-wire in manual. It is almost impossible to pull focus quickly. However it works perfectly well for video in autofocus, unless it starts to hunt. Pros prefer manual focus and exposure for consistency. If auto works for you, the 25/2 is a fine lens.

Q: 4. Does it come with a de-click tool or we have to buy separately?

A: What is a de-click tool? I guess the answer is no..,

Q: 5. Has anyone used this lens or the Loxia 35mm f/2 in combination with a matte box and follow focus? They seem too short to use both and have a comfortable rig setup. I would hesitate to purchase them simply for that reason.

A: I do not have direct use using the lens with a follow focus or a matte box on the lens at the same time. The lens is on the smaller side but there are many follow focus that should work fine with it. And as for a matte box to be used at the same time with a follow focus a rig in most cases will need to be used. This way you have more versatility on positioning of the matte box.

Q: 6. Is this lens suited for video use? And does it rack focus well?

A: The ZEISS Loxia lenses are better suited for video applications, since they are a manual focus lens with hard stops at the infinity and close focus marks. These lenses also feature a manual aperture that can be de-clicked by the user with a simple turn of a screw on the lens mount.

Q: 7. does the zeiss birthday rebate apply to pre-orders of this lens?

A: The instant rebate is on specific lenses and it does not include the Zeiss Batis 25mm F/2 Sony E mount lens. The instant rebates are listed under the price on the product page.

Q: 8. have the Loxia 21. Its Killer. Can I use the 50 as a macro lens?

A: The ZEISS Loxia 2/50 is not a macro style lens, since the minimum focus distance is set at 17.7" and the image magnification ratio of 1:6.9. However, the lens can be used with extension tubes to provide close focus capability.

Q: 9. How do I mount this on the Sony FS7 Camcorder? It just doesn't lock in, it only spins less than an inch then it stops fully, unable to spin any further. It just doesn't lock in, no matter what I do, they are both E-Mount, this shouldn't be a problem....?

A: The Loxia lens should mount to the Sony FS7 without issue. If you are not able to get it to mount please contact our customer service dept. to see about an exchange.

Q: 10. Where is this manufactured and would the location of manufacturer make a difference when it comes to quality control issues such as decentering and misaligned lens elements?

A: All ZEISS camera lenses, regardless of where they are manufactured, are designed to meet exacting QC standards. You can purchase and use these lenses with confidence in knowing they are designed to offer the highest performance possible and built for many years of use.
