Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How is the aperture controlled?

A: The following unit is a manual adapter, so lens functions that rely on electronic communication with the camera body (autofocus, AE metering, image stabilization, etc.) will be disrupted. 'Focus-By-Wire' lenses (such as Canon's STM or Nikons AF-P) requires power to engage the manual focus rings on the lens, since manual lens mount adapters do not power the lens, those lenses will not be able to focus. Set your exposure manually or meter using your camera's Aperture Priority (stop-down) mode. If your lens does not have a manual aperture control ring, the lens aperture will revert to its default position, which depending on the lens is either stopped down to its largest f-stop or opened up to its smallest f-stop.

Q: 2. what adapter can be used to attach a Nikon enlarger lens with L-39 threads?

A: Fotodiox makes a Nikon F to L39 adapter, click the link below to view; https://bhpho.to/336ypp5

Q: 3. how can I mount an enlarging lens to it?

A: This is designed to be used with Canon EF lenses. You would need an adapter from the mount of your enlarger lens to Canon EF lens mount.

Q: 4. Two questions: 1) is it necessary to use a lens designated as macro with this bellows and 2) if using a lens without a manual aperture ring (Nikon), it will stay wide open, is that right?

A: Question 1, no you don't need to use a macro specific lens with the bellows. Question 2, the bellows unit doesn't any sensors on it to connect with your camera, meaning everything is going to be manual. The rails on the unit do get in the way at times if you plan on using a ring flash.

Q: 5. What other parts do I need to use the bellows on my Nikon D5300 camera?

A: The FotodioX Macro Bellows for Nikon F Mount Camera Systems, B&H # FOMBNFMCS, would connect directly to the Nikon D5300 DSLR camera, and the lens would connect directly to the front of the bellows. The only other item you would need would be a tripod to mount the setup on the tripod for usage. Do note that you will have to use the camera in full manual mode when using the bellows system on your camera.

Q: 6. The person who left a review for this product said he could not connect his 105mm macro, what is the reason for this ?

A: This is old school macro. I would not use this with a macro (micro in Nikon terms) lens. It is intended to be used with a fixed focus standard lens such as 50mm for example. Nikon used to make these before they started making dedicated micro lenses. The bellows allows for the standard lens to be run further out from the film (sic) plane and thus magnify the image. All coupling to the body will be lost thus electronic diaphragms are disconnected. All lenses that precede the G series should be OK because you can manually set the aperture. I suspect setting exposure entails some Kentucky windage along with trial and error. G series lenses would have to be set based on a wide open aperture and just live with the reduced depth of field.

Q: 7. Can these bellows be mounted to a tripod head?

A: Yes the FotodioX Macro Bellows has a standard 1/4-20 tripod socket for mounting on a tripod.

Q: 8. Hypothetically, could you adjust the rails to turn this into a tilt shift adapter too? Mainly using it at the shortest distance so it doesn't effect infinite focus? Also is infinity focus effected when the bellows are fully retracted?

A: It can not be used for tilt shift. It is a macro rail so it can not go to infinity.

Q: 9. Can I use this with a 100mm canon macro lens to copy slides

A: You can but there won't be any autofocus or aperture control if you're using a contemporary lens.

Q: 10. I have just hooked on a 50mm EF 1:1.4 lens to the bellows and will not come off. Is there a special way to take the lens of?

A: The small metal button should be pushed towards the bellows and the camera, not towards the center of the circle.
