This 105mm Coarse Tiffen ND Filter is a solid ND filter with a filter factor of 2x that provides a 1-stop exposure reduction. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. The new lens has slightly more distortion but less flare and CA owing to better coatings. The new lens does not have a DC control ring to manipulate bokeh. The new lens does not have an aperture ring, unlike the DC-Nikkor, so it is practically worthless for classic Nikon SLRs. The new lens is light and plasticky feeling, unlike the older solid metal and glass crinkle-coated DC-Nikkor. The new lens has a AF-S in-lens motor, which will burn out after some years and will render it a manual focus lens when Nikon decides to stop making replacement motors, as they have already done for other top-of-the-line AF-S lenses...whereas the 105/2DC with screwdriver AF will still be working just fine a hundred years from now.
