Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the outer diameter of the front of the lens for matte box fitting?

A: 114mm matteboxes will accept this lens.

Q: 2. Would this cover full frame on an fx9?

A: It will not. This covers a Super 35mm sized sensor only.

Q: 3. What's the difference between this lens and the one that comes with the FS-5 Kit?

A: The kit lens is the Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS. The 18-110mm offers 6.1x high zoom ratio, high res suited for 4k movie production, SMO, three separate focus, iris and zoom rings, SteadyShotTM in-lens image stabilization, and a lightweight design with dust and moisture resistance.

Q: 4. Is this lens compatible with the Sony FS-700 camera?

A: As the Sony FS-700 accepts E mount lenses, you can use this lens with that camera.

Q: 5. Is this lens supported on the new A7iv? Details or links would be helpful.

A: Yes, the Sony E PZ 18-110mm f/4 G OSS Lens is compatible with the Sony A7IV. Power zoom functions will not work however since this feature is reserved for Sony FX Series cameras.

Q: 6. Will the lens when in manual focus mode focus like a mechanical focus system where when you rock the focus ring back and forth to find focus, once found it will always be at the same position on the ring, or is it fly by wire which is difficult when trying to focus very quickly, eg. run & gun shooting?

A: The lens has yet to be released so the final answers regarding all focus features is not yet known. However, according to a Sony rep, the lens is focus by wire, so the lens does not have traditional focus markings and hard stops. The lens however is parfocal and will maintain focus while you zoom in/out while in AF or MR. In addition, Sony has addressed many cine issues such as breathing, parfocal focus, and axial shift all in a constant aperture lens with excellent zoom range for its intended camera for an excellent price. We shall see soon how this lens does.

Q: 7. Will this lens work on the FS5? Under the FS5 accessory lenses, this lens is not listed as one that can be used.

A: As the Sony FS5 accepts E mount lenses, you can use this lens with that camera. (copy/pasted staff answer above)

Q: 8. Is the servo zoom speed on the 18-110 faster than the 28-135 lens which I own and find quite slow?

A: The Sony E PZ 18-110mm will not start shipping until February of 2017, so we are not able to answer such a question yet. However this lens is said to have an improved design over the FE PZ 28-135mm, so we believe it will allow for a faster zoom. We will need for the lens to be released for actual testing and comparison. Please keep an eye on this website for updates.

Q: 9. Can this lens be effectively used in 4k Super 35 mode on the Sony FX9 camera?

A: Yes, the Sony 19-110 G Lens can be used in Super35 mode on the Sony FX9.

Q: 10. What is the thread pitch on the filter threads?

A: The Sony E PZ 18-110mm f/4 G OSS Lens (B&H# SOSELP18110G) has a filter thread diameter of 95mm and a filter thread pitch of 1mm.
