Q: 1. Can I place a hand grip on the RRS L plate for sony a7r3?Can I attach it to the bar at the bottom of the base plate?

A: I have been using the a7RII RRS L plate (mostly without the L) for a couple of years. Combined with the Peak Design anchors, it was the perfect camera carry for me. So I was disappointed with the RRS plate on my new a7RIII; missing the attachment point on the lower right. I was ready to have a machine shop mod one for me but; I found a pretty good alternative.The new RRS plate has a hex tool slot (which is handy but not necessary) I found that by attaching the PD anchor to the strap attachment in the base and feeding it through the hex key slot; voila! a pretty well balanced carry. It could be better an inch to the right but it works much better than any other combo I tried. I am not sure this would work with a hand strap but you could give it a try.

A: No. It is a receiver. It can communicate with the Air remote, so that info is displayed correctly in both devices, but it doesn't work as a transmitter to trigger other flashes. It is not a master flash.

A: This product will not fit the A7 III.

A: Yes, l am using the di700a on my a77-II, and it's working great. All functions work with the multi interface, ttl, manual, and hss. To get the HSS function to work you have to hold the pilot button down for 3 sec. The zoom only works on the camera if your using a lens that communicates distance to the camera. Otherwise there is no wat to control the zoom unless you use the Air Comander. Front Curtin and Rear Curtain functions also work when using it on camera.

Q: 8. Is it really true you can not open the battery door with this mounted?

A: The battery door must be removed from the camera and put on the RRS bracket just as my Sony A7RII with the full plate. Very easy to change and the RRS plate even is gasketed where it contact the camera around the opening where the battery is inserted.

Q: 9. does this have a screw hole so I can use it with a tripod?

A: The Really Right Stuff Base Plate for Sony Alpha a9 and a7R III does have a screw hole for tripod mounting.

A: Yes - it is the same...fits my A7R3 perfectly. Not tested the weather sealing on the battery compartment though.Having a fully flat base is much more convenient, even though it makes the camera a bit bigger. A standalone tripod plate otherwise snags on things and the camera rocks when you put it down.
