A: It comes with the QUICK RELEASE BASE (no plates are included but it's compatible with most Arca Swiss plates. I too have the Canon 600 F/4 and I use the Wimberley P50 plate for that lens (you need the longer plate which allows you to slide it forward/backward in the base to balance the longer heavy lenses). I also have the Canon 100-400 IS II and I use the smaller P10 plate for it. The larger plates such as the P50 has two screws making it more secure for a big heavy lens while the P10 only has one screw but has the anti twist nubs. Hope this helps!

A: No. This base plate attaches to the bottom of your camera body and will attach your camera body to many types of tripod heads, but not a standard gimbal head. A gimbal head does not have room to attach the camera body and is made to be used with long lenses which typically have a rotating collar with tripod foot. You attach a flat base plate (not this one) to the tripod foot on your lens and that's the plate that attaches to the gimbal head.

A: It works wonderfully with a Monopod, as long as you get the right monopod. The fiddly ones start with a mediocre diameter tube and come in many sections for portability, and thus the end section has a very small diameter and causes instability with a heavy lens, body and gimbal combo. With the right monopod, such as some of the Gitzo's like the GM2542 Series 2 or even better, the GM4532 Series 4 you will have no problems. It's great in fact. I'd also get a spike and use the side mount. Much faster in operation, especially if you adjust the up/down height a lot in a day. I personally consider the ProMediaGear TR42 monopod the best there is and much better with a gimbal than the normal monopod heads. But keep in mind that the TR42 starts with a 1.65" (!) diameter carbon fiber tube and is rated for 70 pounds.
