Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Really interested in this one but for digitizing negatives. So, the question is, will this work with any kind of film strip holder like the Nikon FH-3 or other plastic film holders? Thanks.

A: The ES-1 Slide Copying Adapter is meant to hold a single mounted slide only.

Q: 2. I would like to use the ES-1 on a Nikon D800. What would be the best micro lens to use? Would I need adaptors also?

A: Officially the 55mm macro and extension tube were the correct items to use with this adapter, but the 60mm macro will also work without a tube.

Q: 3. How long can this be extended?

A: It depends on which extension tubes and what lens you intend to use this with.

Q: 4. Hi there. I'm using the ES-1 adapter with a Nikon D7000 and the Nikkor 40mm 1:2.8G lens. The slides appear to be in focus when viewing through the camera, but the pictures I'm getting are not sharp, and I'm losing detail. I've tried manual focus, I've adjusted my aperture to various settings, but nothing seems to improve this. I've seen several reviews from people with the same camera/lens I'm using, and they seem to have been successful. Any suggestions? Thanks!

A: You may be trying to focus too close to the end of the lens. The ES-1 is adjustable for focusing distance. You could also use an extension ring on the lens to gain closer focus. Shoot at f 8 or 11 for best sharpness. Selective manual focus seems best and It also helps to shoot in raw and sharpen and make adjustments in post processing.

Q: 5. Would this work with Nikon 35mm f/1.8?

A: No, The ES-1 enables slide copying with Nikkor 55mm f/2.8 Micro-Nikkor lens and PK-13 Extension Tube.

Q: 6. I have and old 100 mm canon macro with a 52mm thread and 1/1 magnification. With a full frame camera could I use the Nikon ES-1 Slide Copying Adapter?

A: While you could attach the ES-1 to other lenses besides the Nikon lenses that are recommended for it, you may need to add extension tubes to the lens in order to focus. One such option for extension tubes is the Vello Auto Extension Tube Set for Canon EOS B&H # VEEXTCD.

Q: 7. How can I use the ES-1 with a Nikon 105mm macro lens?

A: I use a 105mm lens. I fashioned an extension tube to link the ES-1 to the lens at the correct focal distance by rolling a simple sheet of cardboard into a tube of about 5 inches length, taping it closed, and taping the ES-1 to one end. I then then mounted the other end of the assembly to the lens (using tape). The rest is simple: I put a slide in the ES-1, pointed it at a natural light source (outside window), and took a picture.

Q: 8. Finally got my ES-1 to use with my 55micro 3.5 and M2 extension (27.5mm same as a PK 13) , but it looks like I need maybe another 5 or 6 mm to get the slide in focus. I thought the ES-1 was made to work with this combination. Any one have any ideas why it's not working?

A: This adapter is met to be used with 55mm f/2.8 try staking the extension tube. Nikon 8mm AI Extension Tube PK-11A

Q: 9. Can you use this with the 60mm F/2.8 AF-D lens?

A: Yes but you will also need some extension tubes. Google Scanning thousands of slides? Try a digital camera, for full instructions. The results are great.

Q: 10. Used with 50 mm normal lens

A: The ES-1 works best with the Nikon 55mm f/2.8 Micro-Nikkor Lens equipped with the Nikon PK-13 Extension Tube. Using any other lens would provide various results.
