Audio professionals looking for a professional loop editor that provides compatibility with most DAWs will be thrilled with Propellerhead Software ReCycle, an audio tool for manipulating rhythmic loops or any material that has a distinctive and repeating pulse. The software analyzes the loop and then cuts up the individual events into slices according to the user's preference as to how big or small the slices should be.

ReCycle is great a tool for quickly editing sampled parts, chopping up riffs, remixing, and doing mashups. Once the sampled material has been analyzed, it's possible to alter the tempo or replace sounds and process them individually. Additionally, none of the processing sounds unnatural because rather than stretching individual samples in a loop to make it slower, the software changes the space between the events without introducing any choppiness.

Slices can be moved, auditioned or deleted, using on-screen tools and controls. Other tools allow for setting the length, attack, and decay of the slices. Slicing a loop also provides individual control over both the sound of the slices and the timing. Rearrange the loop, change the feel of it, replace parts of the loop with other samples, pitch it, and much more.

Signal processing includes compression, EQ, and a Transient Designer for imparting some punch and distinction, all of which can be applied to the loop non-destructively, and saved as a new file. The resulting REX files can be imported into any music software that supports the format, which basically includes all the major music software titles.

Slice

  • ReCycle finds all the transients in your sampled material and slices your loop up, while also keeping the timing information, so you can play it back at any tempo without losing its feel or with the artifacts that come from time stretch.

Tweak

  • Sculpt your sound with ReCycle’s built-in effects: Transient Shaper, EQ, Envelope, and a stretch feature that stretches the tail end of each slice in the loop.

Create

  • Save your loops as REX files, and let the creative part begin. With ReCycled audio, your loops can be arranged, rearranged, have their timing altered, or even be used as a groove template for your song.

  • Like the sounds of your loop, but the feel isn’t right for your song? ReCycled loops can be quantized in your sequencer to fit with any groove
  • Or, maybe you feel of your loop, but the snare isn’t right? Simply replace the snare while keeping the tempo
  • Create a more living performance by rearranging the loop’s slices in your sequencer to create fills and variations
  • Use your sequencer’s groove quantize to set the ReCycled loop as your groove template and have the whole track swinging to your loop

REX is the native file format of ReCycle. A REX file contains the original audio of the loop, the slices you have applied in ReCycle, and any effects or processing you have added in ReCycle. REX files are also compressed, using a non-lossy compression technique to save some precious hard drive space. The REX technology is available for third parties and has become the de facto standard for loop handing in just about every DAW.

These are the apps that support the REX technology today:

  • Ableton Live
  • Steinberg Cubase
  • MOTU Digital Performer
  • Image-Line FL Studio

A: This product wouldn't interfere with a strap.

Q: 2. How does this compare to Nikon SU-800 wireless speedlight commander? and is this compatible with SB-700 speedlite?

A: The RFS2.2 connects with any RFS2 enabled broncolor product, providing remote control over sync, modeling light, or power output. It is not compatible with the SB-700 for triggering purposes, other than by way of using the transceiver's PC sync output.

Q: 3. If the power is adjusted on the Siros L, will the new power level be transmitted back to the RCS 2.2 transceiver display?

A: The RFS2.2C would not display the current power level, any adjustment only shows the adjustment amount in stops). For remote viewing and adjustment of the power level, the bronControl app and built-in wifi of the Siros L is recommended.

Q: 4. Will is work with the Macro Twin Lite MT-24EX?

Q: 7. Does this deliver TRUE high speed sync as compared to the Canon high speed sync?

A: All Siros L units with the latest software update (bit.ly/2flZJmN) are HS compatible. HS lets you use flash in combination with very short exposure time settings on your camera. For example, with ambient light, even with the aperture wide open (selective focus), the image can be underexposed correctly with up to 1/8000 s and Siros L still lets you set dominant and creative light effects. All you need for this is the RFS 2.2 trigger, which is available for Nikon, Canon and Sony cameras.

Q: 8. Is there going to be a version for Fujifilm? Especially with the advent of the new GFX?

A: As an update, the RFS 2.2 F for Fuji has been released, supporting the majority of popular Fuji mirrorless cameras, GFX included.

Q: 9. Does this work on a 580 flash ?

A: Yes, the 580ex and the 580ex II both have an external power port. It will work with others as well, any Canon on-camera flash with HV connector.

Q: 10. Will HS work with Nikon SB-800 speed light ?

A: broncolor HS is a different technology than the Nikon's Auto FP flash system on the SB800. The RFS2.2 N is only able of triggering the SB800 in standard flash mode from the PC sync port or accessory shoe.
