Q: 1. I've been using the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Lens (original or I version) for close work on flowers, butterflies, bees, etc. Besides IS, what differences would I expect with this 100mm Macro? Better background blur?

A: I've taken shots of many insects and objects, and never used a tripod. For product shooting, a tripod and light box work very well.

Q: 2. I don't see Canon EOS 5D Mark II listed under compatible cameras however I was told by a Canon retailer that it would be. What is the correct answer. First question here:What cameras is this compatible with? Answer:The Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens is compatible with all current Canon DSLR camera bodies. (APS-C or Full Frame). Can I use this with my Canon 5D Mark II?

A: Correct, the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens is compatible with the 5D mark II as it covers full-frame sensors and uses Canon's EF mount for connection.

Q: 3. is this a good lens for Canon EOS 6D mark II?

A: Yes! I guess if I could only have one lens. It would probably be this lens. Great for portraits, yet can focus very close. It is very sharp as well wide open!

Q: 4. I have an older Cannon EF 100mm macro 1:2.8 lens; not the L series. Is there that much difference between it and the newer one? If so, what?

A: The L series is s superior product. The quality of the lens is definitely noticeable

Q: 5. Hi! How do you compare the two lenses canon 100L F2.8 Macro and Canon 85mm f1.8 for portrait shooting ?? TKS...

A: No comparison here, there are two different animals, a micro lens isn't design to be use for portraits, even though people try, it is a little slower focusing an less sharp, but for details shots and closeups of insects, flowers etc, is none like it.

Q: 6. what will i expect with this lens? will i get a full frame photo with my crop 1.6 canon sl3

A: You have a cropped sensor camera, like you said 1.6, it will always be cropped regardless of the lens you put on it. The crop or angle of view with a 100mm lens will be similar to a 160mm.

Q: 7. What is the working distance (end of lens to subject) at 1x and 1.4x?

A: Focusing distance at 1.4x is 10.2" inches / 26 cm. This is measured from the Sensor Plane. Measuring from the end of the lens this would be 3.6" inches / 9 cm. Unfortunately as this lens has not been made available yet and it is not listed in the specs, we do not yet have information on focusing distance at 1x. Though it would definitely be a longer distance than at 1.4x.

Q: 8. I am a botanical artist. I am looking for a lens to see the details in leaves and petals - and have a clear image to work from these detail images. Is this my best choice?

A: Yes if you want autofocus, image stabilization and ability to work with Canon DSLR cameras the EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens is the best choice. I would also recommend a tripod, a focusing rail, and a ring light, and also take many photos at different focus points and join them together in software to create a photo with large depth of field.

Q: 9. Could someone please help me understand something, which macro (for canon) would be the best for getting the most close up looking pictures. Because I'm trying to get into macro and i am looking at tonnes of macro pictures and some are like hardly macro and others are like a close up of a bug face. So what I'm pretty much asking is macro lens would make ants and stuff the biggest in the end photo? (If that makes sense...)

A: The Canon 100mm f/2.8 is a great start. However, the photography you are describing is not possible with ANY manufacturer's macro lens, despite the focal length. In order to photograph the segments of that dragonfly's eye, you will still need other accessories such as extension tube(s), special lens adapters that go in front of the lens, or several other methods people have employed to achieve the desired result. Depth of field, or should I say a lack of it, becomes very apparent in macro photography. A tripod is a must, and unless you were going for a particular look, focus stacking software may also become a necessity. My recommendation would be to research as much as you can on extreme macro photography prior to buying this or any other macro lens. In the same breath, I would highly recommend this lens. You will get great macro shots, and gain valuable experience in the mechanics of obtaining photos of that type. You will learn that the smaller your subject the more finesse required. Believe me. I've had mine a year and a half and I'm still learning the ropes . It's a real challenge, and I'm loving it. My best advice is, before you buy anything, research! (But this is one great lens...)

Q: 10. Does this lens pair well with the Canon SL2 in terms of balance and weight? Thanks.

A: The lens is not heavy but it is rather long. I think it will be OK. Even though the SL2 is compact, the lens is not heavy and certainly won't put any undue stress on the mount.
