The 46mm Carl ZEISS T* UV Filter from ZEISS is a general use, clear filter that helps to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. No additional coloration or contrast effects are provided, rendering a clean and natural appearance.

A UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

The T* anti-reflective coating helps to reduce reflections on the filter's surface and promote a better light transmission for high quality imagery. The filter ring is designed with a slim profile to allow its use on wide angle lenses, but front filter threads are still available for the use of additional filters.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the extra weatherseal blue gasket cause any problems with locking to an A6300 (or A7) body?

A: I use this on both and the seal is excellent, not at all loose like some other lenses i tried. Great lens.

Q: 2. Lens hood storage, do you reverse it and attach it back onto the camera lens?

A: Yes, and because the lens hood is made of metal is nice and sturdy. Very well made.

Q: 3. Does 5 Axis Stabilization with the Will Will 5 Axis Stabilization of the Sony A7II work with this lens, or are only 2 of the 5 active?

A: The Steady Shot feature in this camera works independently of the lens.

Q: 4. How good is this camera with a7s? and is it 4k compatible ?

A: How good is the LENS with an A7S ...? In my opinion, it is good for all applications, including video. The Loxia 35/2 and 50/2 are completely compatible with all Sony A7 cameras, including the A7S. The lens is electronically connected to the body, and transmits settings and distance to the camera. The lens is very sharp throughout the image, and has exceptionally low distortion. The diaphram is manually controlled, and can be de-clicked for smooth transitions with video. Focusing is also manual, very smooth and precise with a long throw (135 deg). Manual lenses are preferred for video, and the Loxia is one of the best. I use this lens with an A7ii and A7Rii for both stills and video.

Q: 5. What is the aperture range of this lens?

A: My question. Apologies that I didn't see answer in product description.

Q: 6. Since it's manual focus, does this lens have a focusing tab, like those on Zeiss and Leica lenses for the M mount? If not, how is the focus through from infinity to minimum focus distance?

A: Tabs are useful on rangefinder lenses because the lenses and focusing rings tend to be very narrow. with a short throw. The Loxia focusing ring is wide and ribbed, easy to grasp, and has a long, 135 deg throw. Most of this range is used for closeups, down to 0.2 meters. Normal focusing, say from 2m to infinity use about 45 deg of throw. There is a hard (and reliable) infinity stop. Using the focusing tools of the A7, this lens is nearly as fast to use as auto-focus, and unlike auto-focus, never goes crazy and hunts between shots.

Q: 7. If I want to make the exposure at f/8, will I focus the Loxia lens on the Sony A7RII wide open then stop down to f/8 to make the exposure?

A: Set the aperture to F8 then set your focus.

Q: 8. How do I mount this on the Sony FS7 Camcorder? It just doesn't lock in, it only spins less than an inch then it stops fully, unable to spin any further. It just doesn't lock in, no matter what I do, they are both E-Mount, this shouldn't be a problem....?

A: The Loxia lens should mount to the Sony FS7 without issue. If you are not able to get it to mount please contact our customer service dept. to see about an exchange.

Q: 9. Do I have to use stop down metering?

A: Yes, the lens stops down automatically. I find this most helpful, seeing what I will be capturing before I press the shutter release. I would also add that this has become my favorite lens. Period.

Q: 10. Has anyone used this lens or the Loxia 35mm f/2 in combination with a matte box and follow focus? They seem too short to use both and have a comfortable rig setup. I would hesitate to purchase them simply for that reason.

A: I do not have direct use using the lens with a follow focus or a matte box on the lens at the same time. The lens is on the smaller side but there are many follow focus that should work fine with it. And as for a matte box to be used at the same time with a follow focus a rig in most cases will need to be used. This way you have more versatility on positioning of the matte box.
