Tiffen Black Pro-mist Filter (105mm, Coarse Thread, Grade 1/8)
- Product Code: ga268418
-
The 105mm Tiffen Coarse Thread Black Pro-Mist 1/8 Filter helps to reduce the value of the highlights while slightly lowering the overall contrast. This filter is especially useful for smoothing out and softening facial wrinkles and other blemishes. While designed for use with movies, this filter can also be used for fashion and beauty applications. Unlike a traditional diffusion or soft focus filter, Pro-Mist filters provide little loss of detail across the image. The 1/8 density provides less contrast and highlight reduction than the 1/4, while still allowing for a soft, pastel-like quality of light.

Q: 1. It is made in which country?
A: According to the information we have, our current inventory's country of origin is Japan. Please be aware this can change over the product's production life by the manufacturer without notice
Q: 2. I have the old 105. This one is not a macro I take it...?
A: No, it is not a macro. I'm sure you could convert it to one with extension tubes, but haven't tried that.
Q: 3. How does this lens compare to the Nikon AF DC-Nikkor 105 mm F/2D Lens?
A: At the same apertures, it performs just very slightly better than the DC, but almost the same. If images are produced by skilled shooters, you'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference in a blind test at the same apertures. Of course the new lens goes to f/1.4 where the depth of field effect is dramatic, which is the main selling point. The new lens has slightly more distortion but less flare and CA owing to better coatings. The new lens does not have a DC control ring to manipulate bokeh. The new lens does not have an aperture ring, unlike the DC-Nikkor, so it is practically worthless for classic Nikon SLRs. The new lens is light and plasticky feeling, unlike the older solid metal and glass crinkle-coated DC-Nikkor. The new lens has a AF-S in-lens motor, which will burn out after some years and will render it a manual focus lens when Nikon decides to stop making replacement motors, as they have already done for other top-of-the-line AF-S lenses...whereas the 105/2DC with screwdriver AF will still be working just fine a hundred years from now.
Q: 4. I was wondering if this lens is compatible with the 3 different Nikon Teleconvertor's 1.4 1.7 2.0 Thank You!
A: I do not use teleconverters, but I don't see why it would not be compatible. Keep in mind if you're using a crop sensor camera, you would already be getting the benefit of the 1.5X factor.
Q: 5. Will this work with the Rebel T7
A: The EF 24-105mm lens is compatible with the Canon Rebel T7.
Q: 6. How this lens compare to the 85 1.8 ?. Difficult to compare between f/1.4 and F/1.8, any direct experience ?
A: Before getting into quality differences between the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED Lens and the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G Lens, a very significant different is the focal length. The perspective from a 105mm lens is different than that from a 85mm lens. This is very much dependent on personal preference and specific application. Aside from this, there are a few benefits to the 105mm. A Nano Crystal Coat has been applied to lens elements to minimize surface and internal reflections for a marked reduction in lens flare and ghosting. Specialized electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater exposure control stability that is especially beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting rates, though double check that your camera is compatible with lenses that have this. The 105mm has a better build quality overall. The f1.4 aperture with the longer focal length will provide a shallower depth of field than is possible on the 85mm lens. Overall the 105mm f/1.4E is optically better than the 85mm f/1.8G lens.
Q: 7. what is white box?
A: White Box merchandise comes supplied in a plain white box, instead of the manufacturer's colorful packaging. It still includes all the manufacturer's accessories and is covered under the 1 Year Warranty.
Q: 8. I am considering buying the 24-100mm L series f4 IS lens. Based on reviews it is an excellent lens particularly with the 50D. I have also seen reviews complaining of 'lens creep' with this lens.I have a Rebel Ti1 and a 15-85mm lens which has lens creep and it is annoying and problematic.I think the 24-105mm is the best all round every day lens to have in the bag, always on the camera. I do not want this 'creeping' problem with an expensive L series lens although I know the image quality will be good.Should I be really concerned with this potential problem? How many users find it an issue?
A: For me its a small issue.
Q: 9. Any comparison between Nikon 105mm F/1.4 vs Nikon 85mm f/18G -- which one is better as a portrait lens?
A: Both the AF-S 85mm f/1.8G and this AF-S 105mm f/1.4E ED are very sharp. With the 105mm, you would get the slightly longer focal length and 2/3 of a stop brighter maximum aperture. While those two factors can be helpful, this lens would have the electromagnetic diaphragm which is most compatible with the newer Nikon bodies.
Q: 10. Is the white box the equipment new or used?
A: White box equipment is new.
