Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I really like having the aperture ring. Fellow owners of this lens, do you know of other m43 lens with this feature? Thank you!

A: Both the 12mm F1.4 Panasonic Leica and the 42.5mm F1.2 Nocticron have an aperture ring and are truly amazing lenses. But they are both priced north of $1000.

Q: 2. Does it have weather sealing?

A: Yes

Q: 3. Does the aperture rings works with Olympus Pen F?

A: Yes, the aperture ring will work on the Olympus Pen F.

Q: 4. Other than the fact that it can be open as wide as f1.7 is the IQ, let's say around 5.6-16, which is what is most of the time used for landscapes much better than what the kit lens 14-42 delivers? In other words, inside a building it's going to be great to have 1.7, but to film a big field with horses with mountains in the background in broad daylight, how much better is it going to be than the kit lens?

A: If you shoot both lenses at the same f/stop, say f/5.6, and then look critically, the Leica DG Summilux 15mm prime lens will be better for two reasons:1.It is a prime lens. By its nature of being a lens with fewer glass elements, it will have superior sharpness, contrast and color as well as more pronounced bokeh and smaller size. 2.The build quality of the Lumix G Vario 14-42mm is good but the build quality of the Leica DG Summilux 15mm is better. A closer comparison would be the Leica DG Summilux 15mm vs the Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 12-35mm f/2.8 II ASPH. POWER O.I.S. Lens B&H # PA123528A. There the image quality difference is less and the consideration comes down to do you want the mm focal range convenience of the zoom or the increased bokeh and smaller size of the prime lens. For landscapes, I would definitely prefer the Leica DG Summilux 15mm over the Lumix G Vario 14-42mm.

Q: 5. made in japan ?

A: Yes, currently the Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 ASPH. Lens is made in Japan.

A: No

Q: 8. What is country of manufacture for this lens ?

A: According to the information we have, our current inventory's country of origin is Japan. Please be aware this can change over the product's production life without notice.

Q: 9. Intuitive control over the aperture selection? Is that mean a declicked lense? Thanks!

A: The lens Iris is either controlled by the camera (so sort of click less), with all active MFT cameras, and with the Panasonic MFT camera, you can control the Iris with the f/stop ring when the camera is in manual mode only. Thie Iris ring does Not work on non Panasonic MFT camera bodies, (i.e. Olympus or Blackmagic)

Q: 10. Does the autofocus work well in this lens?

A: Yes, the Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 ASPH. Lens has good autofocus performance. The Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 ASPH. Lens that has a stepping AF motor which provides fast, quiet, and smooth performance for both still and video AF usage needs. The lens is designed for use on cameras that use the Micro Four Thirds lens mount, and would be compatible for use both with the Depth From Defocus (DFD) CDAF autofocus system used in Panasonic Micro Four Thirds mount cameras and the on-sensor PDAF phase detection autofocus system found in Olympus Micro Four Thirds mirrorless digital cameras.
