A: I am in the process of evaluating and I decided on Nikon for several reasons: 1.size and weight are much less than sigma 105. 2. 82mm filter means I can buy an inexpensive adaptor and use the 95mm ND and polarizing filters I already own. 105mm filters are expensive. 3. Two of the web reviews noted many more out of focus pictures with sigma when the subject was moving toward camera. One had woman walk toward both lenses and found big difference. 4.Although Nikon isn't quite as sharp as the sigma, it is described as more sharp than my 85mm 1.4 Nikon which should be fine.

A: I did a few tests with it on and off while on a tripod. MY sharpest pictures while using a tripod were when I left stabilization on. I do have a lightweight tripod though. I suggest you try it both ways on the tripod you will be using.
