Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How do the rubber feet fit on this tripod? Are they force fit or do they screw on?

A: They are mounted on a plate that has a stud in it and the stud screws into the bottom of the leg.

Q: 2. Where it made?

A: Made in Italy

Q: 3. Is it possible to change the rubber feet for spikes? Gitzo spec sheet denotes the tripod GT1545T as not interchangeable feet but I see that someone has lost the rubber foot.

A: Gitzo does not make spikes for this tripod, but as Henry stated, if you can find a set with the same thread pitch (1/4 -20) then these rubber feet can be removed.

Q: 4. Is it possible to replace the mounting plate on the centre column with a plate of a larger diameter (say 2")?

A: The mounting plate on the Gitzo GIGT1545T Traveler Series 1 Carbon Fiber Tripod cannot be replaced.

Q: 5. Can you fully fold up this tripod with the Sirui K-20x Ball Head attached?

A: I don't think so. I use a Really Right Stuff BH-30 on mine (which appears to be a lighter ball head than the Sirui K-20x) and cannot completely fold this tripod without removing the head. The problem is that, once the legs are folded back over the top of the tripod, there's very little room between them to accommodate a head of any size.

Q: 6. What is the best ballhead for this specific Gitzo tripod model? I am looking at either RRS BH-55 or BH-40. Any suggestions?

A: I have the bh-55 for a full size RRS tripod and the Gitzo traveler tripod with a RRS bh-30. This combination was confirmed as a good choice from a professional wildlife photographer. From your question I compared the bases of the Gitzo tripod and the bh-55. The bh-55 base is much larger than the tripod base and it is much heavier than the bh-30.

Q: 7. Is 2545T a much stronger tripod than 1545T? I noticed there is a $300 difference but both are supporting about the same working height!!

A: The GT2545T is a Series 2 while the GT1545T is a Series 1. The Series 2 has thicker legs so that makes for a more rigid hold. Its suggested to move up to a Series 2 if you routinely shoot with lenses up to 300mm. If you don't plan on going above a 200mm then the Series 1 should be adequate.

Q: 8. What is the lowest working high after removing the central column For 2545T? Thanks

A: With its included short center column inserted, the tripod gets down to 22 cm.

Q: 9. Does the 1545t have a ballast hook? I can't find that information anywhere.

A: There is no hook, but, you can order the hook from the GT1542 of the mountaineer series from gitzo. The part number is D104214. Hook . Just unscrew the bottom part of the center column, and screw this hook in. Its the same thread, same dimension and everything, but just has a hook at the end. This will add 15mm in length, but this really doesnt matter, and will still fit in the GC1202T.

Q: 10. Im thinking of investing in this tripod for my upcoming China trip where I be doing ALOT of hiking up and down steps. What ballheads are people using with this tripod? I've narrowed my choice to the Markins Q3i-Tr (quick screw) and the Acratech gp-ss (lever) heads. The main advantage of the Acratech is its ability to invert for panos. I also love the lever release, it feels great to use. The friction control of the gp-ss is terrible compared to the Markins. After testing both (albeit six months apart) I certain the Acratech had more droop after locking down the ball. I did the test with a 5D3 and 70-200f/4 lens @ 200mm.

A: I use the Arca Swiss PO ball head also. No problem holding my Canon 5D 4 with 100-400 Canon zoom and 1.4 extender. I also sometimes use a Wimberley gimbal head with no problems.
