Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this tripod head work on a monopod or even a ground pod? And where can I find the chart to look for the accessory quick release plate for my lenses ....Canon 100 to 400 mm IS II. Thanks

A: It works wonderfully with a Monopod, as long as you get the right monopod. The fiddly ones start with a mediocre diameter tube and come in many sections for portability, and thus the end section has a very small diameter and causes instability with a heavy lens, body and gimbal combo. With the right monopod, such as some of the Gitzo's like the GM2542 Series 2 or even better, the GM4532 Series 4 you will have no problems. It's great in fact. I'd also get a spike and use the side mount. Much faster in operation, especially if you adjust the up/down height a lot in a day. I personally consider the ProMediaGear TR42 monopod the best there is and much better with a gimbal than the normal monopod heads. But keep in mind that the TR42 starts with a 1.65" (!) diameter carbon fiber tube and is rated for 70 pounds.

Q: 2. How much does the WH-200 weigh? My friend has the Jobu Heavy Duty Mark IV, and he loves it. Which is the better gimbal mount? The Jobu is $130 less, btw.

A: The Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base weighs 3.1 lb / 1.4 kg. Both that and the Jobu Design DMG-HD4 Heavy Duty Gimbal Head MK IV are very good gimbals. Wimberley as a brand is top rated for gimbals and plates. And it can support much more weight at no more than 100 lb (45kg).

Q: 3. I'm using a Gitzo G-1173-14B plate with an RF100-500mm. Can I use this plate with the WH-200?

A: The Gitzo G-1173-14B Quick Release Plate is not standard arca. However, the Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base is compatible with standard arca plates. The following option would be excellent for your Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM Lens foot: https://bhpho.to/45MwimT

Q: 4. What other accessory do I need besides...I got a canon 100 to 400mm lenses with 1.6 X and will get the 600mm down on the road. Thax

A: When I ordered the WH-200, I also ordered two quick release plates (used to attach the camera lens collar to the tripod head). Plates: P50, item#WIQRPP50. Two plates so I have one for the 100-400mm lens, and one for a 300mm F2.8 lens. Of course, you need a tripod to attach the WH-200 to.

Q: 5. Is the wh 200 compatible with gitzo 2545 or 2542?

A: Yes it is fully compatible

Q: 6. I currently have a promaster GH25. I am thinking of buying this gimbal. My reason being that I can only lack the pro insert tied positions, but can never find tune it. Meaning that it will lock at 15° 30° but nothing in between. My question is, can I lock this Gimble head in any degree of tilt that I desire thank you

A: Yes, you can lock the tilt on the Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base.

Q: 7. Will this gimbal head on a peak design tripod properly support a Canon R5 with RF 100-500L?

A: Yes, the Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base can be connected to the Peak Design Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod if you use the Peak Design Universal Head Adapter. Please review the following link to view this adapter: https://bhpho.to/2S3MU7g The gimbal will support the weight of the camera and lens; please be aware that the release plate is not included by Wimberley. You can get a universal arca long plate with anti-twist flenge, or replace the foot on your lenses. Wimberly makes the following foot replacement for the Canon 100-500mm RF lens: https://bhpho.to/3VWo1vB

Q: 8. Hi, everyone!First of all, sorry for my english.Last year, I made the acquisition of a Sigma 120-300 Sport lens and I've been using it until now with a Davis & Sanford Carbonlite Transporter tripod and its FZ10 head. The thing is the FZ10 head doesn't seem to be the best head for such a heavy lens.I actually experienced its limits just last sunday to monday night, during the moon eclipse. So I've been searching the web a little bit since yesterday and it appears the Wimberley gimbal head could be a perfect choice.I consider to add a Wimberley QR plate to it but I have not determined yet which one between P40 and P50.My question is: does anyone know if the Wimberley gimbal head will be compatible with my actual D&S tripod (instead of the FZ10 head)? Thanks alot for your forthcoming help.

A: The Wimberley is a fantastic head, and would be a great option for use with heavy super telephoto lenses such as the Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8. That being said, the combined weight of the Wimberley head and Sigma lens (not including a camera) is about 11.5 pounds. The load capacity of the Davis and Sanford Carbonite Transporter appears to be 12 lbs. So just with the lens and head, you would already be close to the max load capacity of the tripod. This wouldnt be the most stable or secure of set-ups. If you are looking for some more in depth advice on heads and legs, I would suggest sending an email to our Photo Department. They would be more than happy to make recommendations for a set up that would best suit your equipment and needs. Askphoto@a href= http://bhphoto.com target= _blank bhphoto.com/a

Q: 9. What plate should I buy for a Tamron 150-600mm lens (on a Canon Mark III)?

A: The plate I use on my Canon 600mm f/4 with this tripod head is 169mm long. It is a bit longer (1 cm on each end) than the tripod foot. This may seem like the extra length is waste, however, I find that depending on which camera body I have on, or an extender, I have to move the balance point forward or backward enough to justify the longer length. I recommend a long length Arca Swiss plate for this reason.

Q: 10. Hi,i have a nikon500mmf4 VR2 and 200-400 VR2 F4 which QR plate I should use? I am also considering to buy the new nikon 400mm 2.8 . please suggest.

A: Wimberley recommends using the AP-554 Replacement foot (B&H # WIFN) for the Nikon 500mm f/4 (I, II, & VR) and 200-400mm f/4. As for the New 400mm f/2.8, the AP-452 (B&H # WIFN400)would be required.
