A: OK, I'll add my 2 cents: This lens is great for what you propose -- pets and horses. It will focus up about a foot from anything, but I'm thinking you'll be further away than that! So, bottom line is yes it'll work find for pets and horses (I've used it to capture photos of my young grandchildren, who certainly move around as quickly as most pets!).

A: Yes, but you still need to apply the APS-C crop factor to the "12-28mm f/2.8" that you're getting via the Speedbooster.

A: Yes, depending on the thickness of the filter ring. Some of the highe quality filter manufacturers (Tiffen, Schneider, etc.) make thin filters rings specifically to address this issue.

Q: 9. Is the manual focus on this lens mechanically connected to the inner workings, or do you have to have the camera on and the shutter button half down to focus manually?

A: There is a AF/MF switch on the lens. When it's on AF you have to press shutter half down to Auto Focus. When it's on manual, there's a ring right before the Zoom ring that you rotate to achieve focus.

A: Yes, but I've only been able to use one at a time. More than that and I start to see the edge of the filter when shooting at 17mm.
