The SR-1W2A-3 Fiber Transmission System (Receiver) from Meridian Technologies incorporates an all-digital encoding technology that transmits one real-time, simplex 10-bit video channel and two, 24-bit audio channels in one direction over one optical fiber. This model uses singlemode fiber. It is well suited for use in intelligent transportation systems, security & surveillance work, access control, among many other applications and settings.

NTSC, PAL and SECAM video formats are seamlessly supported. It uses 3-pin terminal blocks for audio channel interfaces. The SC series is also compatible with Meridian's SpectraSmart Network management and diagnostic PC-based system.

The DigiSlim product family is available as rack mount cards and modules that can be installed in any of Meridian's desk chassis or in 19" racking frames. This system can be configured in either star (module to rack) or trunking (rack to rack) configurations. These systems can be transformed in to a standalone module by using SR-500/S (standard configuration) or SR-1000/S frames.

The manual for the Basic version of this product and some other Freewave products indicate that holding the shutter release longer than 3 seconds in Bulb, will cause the shutter to remain open until the release button is pressed again. The manuals for the RFW-N and the VCTTL-N (this product) indicate that the shutter remains open so long as the button is depressed. I am looking for some confirmation that this is how they really work and the three second option to keep the shutter open doesn't work. Is that the case?

A: Yes, when using the mechanism to trigger the camera the amount of time you hold the button is how long the shutter stays open for. So if I hold the button on the transmitter for 1, 2, 3, 4 or 10 seconds that's how long the shutter stays open. It does not take a second button push to close the shutter after 3 seconds. So depending on your scenario this could be good or bad. With that said I would tend to suggest having both an item like this plus the Vello Shutter Boss. Wired or Wireless are relatively inexpensive. It just allows you to do more stuff in the long run. But again it really depends on what your use will be.I use a Canon 5D Mark II and a 50D with both

Q: 2. will this Vello Captain trigger work with the Sony A6000? I'm thinking about getting one for a carry around camera. My 430 flash does work with the Sony.

A: Hi Marvin, Using a Conon 430 flash with a Sony camera will not allow the use of the TTL function of the flashso it would not make any sense to get this model. Using the Conon 430 flash on the camera now, you need to set the flash manually otherwise it would be at full output. I would look at the non TTL version, and as a bonus, it is also less expensive.

Q: 3. It only works in TTL? If I want to trigger my off-cam manualy?

A: It will trigger your flash in manual mode, but you can't adjust your settings via the remote - you have to physically make those changes on the flash unit.

Q: 4. Can I use with studio strobe unit

A: This trigger set can work with studio strobes aside from TTL shoe mount flashes, by using the included sync cables from the receiver to the desired light.

Q: 5. Will this work with the new canon EOS 80D?

A: It should, I've used it with a 5d and a 40d.

Q: 6. Will it interface w/ my Sekonic L-478DR (ie as Pocket Wizard receivers)?

A: The Vello FreeWave Captain uses a different frequency than Pocket Wizard uses, so it will not be able to trigger the Sekonic L-478DR wirelessly. What you can do is put the meter in a non-corded mode, press the meter button to take the reading then fire the flash from the test fire button on the Captain transmitter.

Q: 8. Will it work with Sigma EF-610 Super DG flash gun in ETTL and manual modes?Thank you.

A: the freeway Captain, works great, i use canon, and yes works whit manual an ETTL, look in the specs if is compatible for your sigma flash gun, because there is a freewave captain for canon and another for nikon.

Q: 9. How many groups are supported? Can it be updated by USB?

A: The Vello FreeWave Captain Wireless TTL Triggering System does not control groups.It does allow upgrades via the usb port and can be done by the user over the internet.

Q: 10. Can you still use the ev adjustment in full manual on the flash?

A: Yes you can change the settings on the flash by 1/3rd stops but in any mode you have the trigger set to the off camera flash needs to be set to TTL.
