A: There is no hook, but, you can order the hook from the GT1542 of the mountaineer series from gitzo.The part number is D104214. Hook . Just unscrew the bottom part of the center column, and screw this hook in. Its the same thread, same dimension and everything, but just has a hook at the end. This will add 15mm in length, but this really doesnt matter, and will still fit in the GC1202T.

Q: 2. Does this have a removable spike? I am concerned about airport TSA confiscating any pod with a spike in it. The size of this monopod is what I am most interested in.

A: I bought this for traveling because of its size, especially when I am walking around most of the day. It has no spike. Collapsed it will fit in carryon and can go in luggage without adding significant weight.

Depending on your needs, a series 2, 3, or 4 tripod might be slightly better, but the excellent weight-height-stiffness ratio of the Mountaineer GT1542 does make it appealing.
