Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this give my a7iii unlimited recording?

A: The Video Assist 3G 5" only has 1 SD card slot so you can only record for as long as your SD card can fit. The 7" models are the ones with 2 SD card slots you can use for continuous recording.

Q: 2. Will this work with an android tablet like Amazon Fire/Samsung A- series? I don't want an iPad.

A: The Hollyland Mars 400S PRO Kit can use the Hollyview app, which is available for both iOS and Android OS.

Q: 3. Will I be able to start/stop trigger with the Sony EX1?

A: Yes, very easy to start stop. Touch onscreen to run/stop

Q: 4. Would this system be reliable enough for live streaming a church service?

A: This system does not offer any direct to the web connection for live streaming. However it is very reliable for going from point to point, transmitter to receiver, and from there you could connect the receiver to a capture or streaming device.

Q: 5. My son does video work for school shows on 2 canon xh-a1s cameras. He wants to record onto memory cards instead of Mini DV tapes. Would this product achieve this?

A: The Canon XH-A1S has analog video outputs while the Video Assist has HDMI and SDI digital video inputs for capture. This will only work if you use an analog to HDMI or SDI converter in between.

Q: 6. What are the correct HDMI cable to purchase to connect the BM Video Assist to the BM Design Micro Studio 4K?

A: Both the Video Assist and Micro Studio 4k have a 1.0/2.3 DIN connectors for their HD/SDI signal. Canare has a special cable that will allow these two products to work together. The Micro Studio 4k's HDMI output is for monitoring only, not recording, so you would need to use an HD/SDI cable for recording between these two devices.

Q: 7. what would be the 12V DC input amperage? i'm thinking about hooking up hi-capacity rechargeable battery to the DC instead if using canon style batt.

A: You can use any high capacity batteries and also can be use with D-Tap supported batteries.https://a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1100258-REG/lanparte_dc_55_25_d_tap_to_dc_power.html target= _blank www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1100258-REG/lanparte_dc_55_25_d_tap_to_dc_power.html/a

Q: 8. I can't change zebra to over 85%-well I can, but it doesn't show anything! last stop is 85%, higher than this zebra just dissapears! Also i cannot change the date or the recording resolution and fps. Also even though my Video Assist is connected via SDI to my Ursa Mini, and trigger is set to 'over sdi' from the camera, pressing record on the camera doesn't start recording on Video Assist.Does anyone have any answers for this quite annoying errors?Nevertheless, it's a great piece of equipment!

A: I noticed a similar but somewhat different problem with my BMCC 2.5K, I have experienced the same Disappearing Zebra's as you have however in my case with my BMCC 2.5K I only loose them when I have my Zebra's set to ABOVE 90%, at 90% they are still there but if I go any higher they are gone. I have my monitor connected via SDI as well so after doing some research I think it might be and issue in part with SDI itself in terms of Legal vs Full range signal (Video vs Data (LOG) levels being transmitted over SDI I have noticed this problem before with RED EPIC and SONY Cine Alta Camera when connected to Blackmagic video devices like the Ultrascope 4K monitor, Both the REDs and Sony cameras are unable to show values above 95IRE on that Broadcast Ultracsope. I believe that because Blackmail Devices are geared toward Broadcast and Broadcast acceptable formats the Video Assist has trouble reading high values of luminance. It could also have to do with the SDI mode is your camera set to display Video dynamic range or Film domains range when you are in your camera's DISPLAY/MONITOR menu? When Blackmagic camera's are set to record RAW internally the SDI is automatically set to output 10-Bit LOG over SDI so the Video Assist might have trouble reading the LOG single over the SDI.In regards to SDI trigger problem, just set it to T/C Run instead of SDI, I know this sounds wrong because you have your camera connected over SDI but in my case with my BMCC 2.5K T/C Run works flawlessly.

Q: 9. Blackmagic design video assist recorder support Video Signal Conversion HDMI to sdi ?

A: Yes, it will do HDMI to SDI or SDI to HDMI conversion.

Q: 10. Will this recorder let me bypass the 29.59 minute limit on my Canon 5D mkiii? Also, will my 5D output audio to this recorder?

A: You are correct that the 5D Mark III will not send audio over HDMI in the clean HDMI mode. Dennis L was mistakenly speaking about conventional mode where HDMI does carry audio. Regarding the Blackmagic Video Assist: since the output of the camera is the same, you would still need to use a cable for the audio when using the BM Video Assist.
