A: Using the Hollyland Mars 400S PRO SDI/HDMI Wireless Video Transmission System as a way to get the signal from the camera to the recorder should work; we see no red flags to say no. However, any blip or drop or defect in the signal will be recorded. We suggest that direct recording is the correct method.

A: This is a limitation with the QuickTime wrapper not ProRes. DNx MXF files wouldnt have a file break in the recording.The QuickTime files has a pre allocated header size where each frame's information is stored..as the QuickTime file is written out this header file is continually updated. When the header file is filled up a new QuickTime file is created.

Q: 3. What are the correct HDMI cable to purchase to connect the BM Video Assist to the BM Design Micro Studio 4K?

A: Both the Video Assist and Micro Studio 4k have a 1.0/2.3 DIN connectors for their HD/SDI signal. Canare has a special cable that will allow these two products to work together. The Micro Studio 4k's HDMI output is for monitoring only, not recording, so you would need to use an HD/SDI cable for recording between these two devices.

Q: 4. The expected availability recently went from August to October. Is there a specific reason for this delay or is it a random guess?

A: We were told by Blackmagic the roll out would be delayed. If there was a reason given, it is not known by us sales agents.

A: This system does not offer any direct to the web connection for live streaming. However it is very reliable for going from point to point, transmitter to receiver, and from there you could connect the receiver to a capture or streaming device.

Q: 7. On the BMPCC you can display video mode while recording film mode. Will this monitor display video mode while recording film mode on the BMPCC ?

Q: 8. will this work with the Sony HDRfx7?

A: No. The Video assist does not record composite video

Q: 9. If you feed a 4k image to HDMI or SDI, will it loop through 4k or will it be downscaled to 2k when it's sent out again through HDMI/SDI?

A: The Video Assist takes 4K in. It then has to down-res it to HD to record and pass through. This means you can record 4K in camera yet monitor and record in HD. This is good and reasonable considering the cost of the Video Assist.

I can't change zebra to over 85%-well I can, but it doesn't show anything! last stop is 85%, higher than this zebra just dissapears!Also i cannot change the date or the recording resolution and fps. Also even though my Video Assist is connected via SDI to my Ursa Mini, and trigger is set to 'over sdi' from the camera, pressing record on the camera doesn't start recording on Video Assist.Does anyone have any answers for this quite annoying errors?Nevertheless, it's a great piece of equipment!

A: I noticed a similar but somewhat different problem with my BMCC 2.5K, I have experienced the same Disappearing Zebra's as you have however in my case with my BMCC 2.5K I only loose them when I have my Zebra's set to ABOVE 90%, at 90% they are still there but if I go any higher they are gone. I have my monitor connected via SDI as well so after doing some research I think it might be and issue in part with SDI itself in terms of Legal vs Full range signal (Video vs Data (LOG) levels being transmitted over SDI I have noticed this problem before with RED EPIC and SONY Cine Alta Camera when connected to Blackmagic video devices like the Ultrascope 4K monitor, Both the REDs and Sony cameras are unable to show values above 95IRE on that Broadcast Ultracsope. I believe that because Blackmail Devices are geared toward Broadcast and Broadcast acceptable formats the Video Assist has trouble reading high values of luminance. It could also have to do with the SDI mode is your camera set to display Video dynamic range or Film domains range when you are in your camera's DISPLAY/MONITOR menu? When Blackmagic camera's are set to record RAW internally the SDI is automatically set to output 10-Bit LOG over SDI so the Video Assist might have trouble reading the LOG single over the SDI.In regards to SDI trigger problem, just set it to T/C Run instead of SDI, I know this sounds wrong because you have your camera connected over SDI but in my case with my BMCC 2.5K T/C Run works flawlessly.
