Compared to the smaller VideoMic GO, the Rode VideoMic camera-mount shotgun microphone offers battery powering, extended low-end response, and customizable audio settings. Its switchable pad and bass roll-off optimize it for mobile journalists, vloggers, and run-and-gun shooters in loud or rumble-heavy environments.

This shotgun microphone features an integrated shockmount that mounts directly to your DSLR, mirrorless, or video camera and reduces noise from vibrations and camera handling. The windscreen design reduces wind noise, making it well suited for outdoor shoots. The attached 3.5mm TRS cable ensures easy hookup to your camera, and the dual-mono output means that no channel selection is necessary on your recording device.

Whereas most built-in camera microphones pick up sound from all directions, this microphone utilizes a supercardioid polar pattern to focus on sound in front of it while attenuating sound from the sides and rear. Its active electronics and directional condenser element deliver more detailed audio than the mics typically found in cameras and portable recorders.

A coiled 3.5mm cable is permanently attached to the mic for fast hookup to your camera. The cable's 3.5mm TRS plug is wired in a dual-mono configuration, ensuring that the mic signal is sent identically to both input channels of your camera or portable recorder.

Pop a 9V battery in the VideoMic for up to 100 hours of operating time. The dedicated power LED changes from green to red when the battery should be replaced. The VideoMic can still function for approximately one hour once the power indicator turns red, but performance will be compromised. Use the power switch to conserve battery life during periods of inactivity.

The high-pass filter can be set to flat or 80 Hz to roll off low-frequency noise from common sources such as air conditioners and traffic.

To protect against distortion, the VideoMic offers a pad that reduces the signal level. Switch to the -10 dB option when loud sound sources threaten to distort your recording, use the -20 dB position to prevent extreme input levels from clipping causing clipping, or select the flat setting when routing the mic into a dedicated high-quality preamp.

Understanding that the rubber bands used in many shockmounts can snap and stretch, Rode chose to integrate a rugged Rycote Lyre suspension-style shockmount. This simplifies setup of the mic and inhibits the transfer of vibrations from the camera. Plus, the bottom of the shockmount features a camera shoe mount with a 3/8" thread, ensuring easy attachment to your camera or a boompole such as Rode's Micro Boompole (available separately).

The VideoMic has a foam windscreen to reduce unwanted wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners. For maximum reduction of wind noise in outdoor environments, consider a furry windshield such as the Rode DeadCat (available separately).

Expand the microphone's device compatibility with Rode accessories such as the SC4 and VXLR (both available separately). The SC4 is a short cable that lets you connect the VideoMic directly to a smartphone or tablet equipped with a 3.5mm TRRS jack. The VXLR adapter is the ideal solution when you want to record the VideoMic to a camcorder or mixer that has XLR inputs.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this let me attach Canon EF lenses to an Olympus System OM-1 camera body? Will the camera and/or lens lose functionality?

A: Yes, the Viltrox EF-M1 lens mount adapter for Canon EF or EF-S-Mount Lens will allow end-users to mount to any micro four thirds camera system.

Q: 2. I'm using this with the 2.5k cinema camera, do I need to power this while shooting?do I need to buy a power adapter to use this

A: The Metabones Speed Booster is a passive mount. Meaning no power runs through it. You'll be able to control your aperture with the ring on the speed booster. Focus will be manual

Q: 3. I have a Lumix DC-G9 and Nikon's 14-24mm f/2.8 lens. Would this adapter work or would there be a lot of vignetting or other issues?

A: Viltrox NF-M43X Lens Mount Adapter for Nikon F-Mount, D or G-Type Lens to Micro Four Thirds Camera is fully compatible with your Panasonic Lumix G9 micro 4/3 camera and your Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens. There wont be any vegetating with this lens. Even though the adapter's optics help to maximize the connected lens's apparent angle of view by 0.71x while providing a one-stop increase for the camera over the lens's aperture range the cameras sensor has a 2X crop factor on your lens.

Q: 4. Would anyone happen to know if this would possibly work on the Blackmag Pocket Cinema Camera 4K that is coming out in September?

A: Metabones has not yet announced compatibility for their products and the new Pocket camera.

Q: 5. Will this work with an E-M5 Mark III?

A: The Viltrox EF-M1 Lens Mount Adapter for Canon EF or EF-S-Mount Lens to Micro Four Thirds Camera is compatible with the Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark III Mirrorless Camera.

Q: 6. How do I know what my f-stop is?

A: You need to calculate depending of your lens.If you have a f2.0, the Speed Booster brings it to a f1.4 equivalent, which is your 0. Then from there you get f2.0 with F at 1 on the Speed Booster, then f2.8,4 etc...

Q: 7. Could this adapter adapt to my Panasonic Lumix G100?

A: Yes this adapter can work on Panasonic Micro 4/3 series cameras such as the G100.

Q: 8. Since I have yashica ml lenses can I buy adapter CY to Nikon that will go in between speed booster and my lens and just use it

A: A Contax/Yashica lens to Nikon F-mount adapter in front of the Metabones Nikon G Lens to Blackmagic 2.5k Cinema Camera with Micro-4/3 Mount Speed Booster will allow for this adaptation to occur.

Q: 9. Do I need to power this externally?

A: No. The adaptor doesn't need external power. This item should be sold with every bmcc. It makes the camera a great camera. Highly recommended!

Q: 10. Does Metabones make a product that will allow me to use my Nikon full frame lenses on the Production Camera 4K and the URSA while speed boosting and changing the crop factor?

A: Speedboosters work when you have a small sensor, larger format lens and a short lens flange depth like a MFT or E-mount. (Flange depth being the distance from the lens mount to the sensor). It takes the large image and squeezes it down to the smaller sensor. In the process of squeezing, it concentrates the light making the image brighter. Genius! Why this was not thought of years ago, I do not know since it is actually the process of a tele converter in reverse. However, this process does not work when you have a larger size sensor and long flange depth like you have with the BM 4K and it's EF or PL mount. If you had such a Speedbooster, the image would not reach the sensor properly and thus is would not be in focus. I am not a camera designer but what I think would be needed is a BM 4K with a MFT or E mount.
