The W-2204 Waterproof Carbon Fiber Tripod from Sirui features a Waterproof Sealing System that prevents water, dust, or other particles from entering the leg tubes. The tripod extends to a maximum height of 70.9", holds up to 39.7 lb, and weighs 3.7 lb. Reverse-folding legs wrap around most ball heads allowing the tripod to fold down to 20.5".

The 4-section legs are individually adjustable and are held in place with twist locks. One of the legs is removable and can be attached to the center column to make a full-sized 69.7" monopod. The removable rubber feet can be replaced by stainless-steel spikes, affording the tripod stability on a variety of surfaces. The split center column allows the tripod to reach its minimum height of 6.1", and a ballast hook on the center column can hold a stabilizing weight.

A: No, I haven't as I do not have a camera to try it with.

Q: 3. Has anyone taken this tripod on Carry-On Luggage? I am concerned that the Spikes are built in that it might be an issue.

A: Not built in. and...i took it several times with me with no problem at the airport.

Q: 4. To unlock the legs, how much of a twist/turn is needed? One review says Gitzo only requires a turn and the Sirui a turn - is that a fair comparison?

A: The specification for the Sirui is 1/2 turn.

Q: 5. Got the W-2204 tripod which is rated to 39 lbs., same as 3 series despite smaller tube diameter. Would Sirui ph 20 gimbal head or similar work with the 2204? W 'pods are waterproof, but no 3 series available. Would like to use the 2204 with a gimbal hd and 200-500 lens and maybe a 300 f2.8.

A: I have a Nikon D4 with a 600mm Nikon prime lens with Wetherby gimbal mount. I have no problems shooting in the Everglades. Just rinse the tripod well if you end up in the water, etc

A: Here is the correct plate: Wimberley AP-555 Replacement Foot for Select Nikon Telephoto Lenses B&H # WIAP555

Q: 7. How well can this tripod fold around Markins Q10 or similar ballheads with wider pan base then tripod column base?

A: The Sirui K20 has a 54mm base and the K30 has a 61mm base and they both work well The Markins Q10 has a 62mm diameter base so it will fold easily

Q: 8. Is there a ballast hook to use with the center column removed?

A: Yes there is a hook at the bottom of the center column.

Q: 9. What metal is the center spider (area where the legs fit) made of?

A: This tripod's center is made of aluminium.

Q: 10. Would the RRS 55H work on this tripod? And would suggest this or the manfrotto 055 for using with a sigma 150-600?

A: Yes. The Sirui W-2204 Waterproof Carbon Fiber Tripod is compatible with the RRS BH-55 head. The Sirui is waterproof, taller, and lighter weight than the Manfrotto 055. Both would be fine for use with the 150-600 lens.

This tripod has been great so far. I'm 6'2 and this tripod easily gets my camera rig over my head without sacrificing sturdiness. Lightweight CF is a huge improvement over my prior, cheaper quality budget tripod. I combined with a Sirui 40x ball head and can hold anything without shake or wobble.

Make sure you choose the right tool for a job. There are stronger and sturdier tripods. But they are heavy. There are lighter options too. But they are not very stable.
Sirui W-2204 is a good compromise. I tried a few similar tripods (about the same weight and length) and found Sirui works better for me.
It's light enough so I can bring it to my hikes and stable enough to take landscape photos. Doing macro or using long tele is still challenging job, especially when it's windy, but I don't want heavier tripod, so this works great.
I like how tall it is too. I removed extended section of the central column and left it home. I am 5'07 and the viewfinder is just above my eye level when legs are fully extended - just a right size for me :)
Anyway, again, it's light, tall and stable for the most of the photos and compact enough too (I can throw it into carry on bag). All the checkboxes checked for me and I would recommend it to anyone who wants lighter option and don't do tooooo much macro or long tele shots.

This is really a great tripod, perfect for my needs. Has no problem supporting even my Nikon Z9 and a 300 F2.8 lens. Recommend a good quality ball head.

This is a great sturdy tripod. I used it the other day for moon alignment shot. I had a Nikon D7200, Tamron 70-200mm lens and a Manfrotto ballhead on top, and this thing did not budge one bit. Also loved that that there is marking on the bottom legs so I know how high I can adjust according to my height.

Of the tripods I was comparing, this one was lighter and folded down smaller. Yet, it extends higher than the others, so it's great that I don’t have to hunch down to look through my camera.

In the online product photos, this tripod looks spindly and un-sturdy. But it’s a solid, sturdy platform for my EOS R5 with a 100-500mm lens. (And I suspect it would be sturdy enough for larger “super” telephotos like the 600mm f/2.8, as well.)

I love the two-piece center column because, by using just the shorter piece, I can position the camera super low to the ground for dramatic, focus-stacked landscape photography. (Of course, to get low to the ground, I can invert the center column as well, but sometimes the first method is more advantageous.)

I also love that I can remove one leg and convert it to a monopod since I seem to have lost my other monopod. ;)

The leg locks take a little practice as the twist-knobs kind of lock at both directions. But I see this as a plus, once you get use to that.

Unlike some other brands, it comes with interchangeable spike feet, as well as the tools for changing them out. And the tough, well-made tripod bag is an added bonus, though I’m not sure how often I’ll use it. Yes, I recommend this product.
