Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the lens coat cover keep out moisture, dust, sand, and heat? I photograph in the desert south west. The sun beating down on a black lens can get really hot! Any remedies?

A: No, the lens coat protects for the following Protection Against Scrapes/Light Bumps Helps Maintain Resale Value of Lens Provides Thermal Barrier

Q: 2. what about parallax convergence in more close up shots? if that is what you call it.

A: Parallax issues would only occur say in rangefinders where you have an offset viewfinder, or viewfinder above the lens. Since SLR viewfinders are correlated via a mirror, what you see in the viewfinder is what you get.

Q: 3. what does Constant f/4 Maximum Aperture mean when the aperture is 4-22?

A: Maximum aperature refers to the maximum or largest area of light that the lens will let in. And when it's constant it's allows you to open up to F/4 at any focal length. A lot of less expensive lenses have variable maximum aperatures that change as you zoom the lens. Maybe F/5.6 for example. So long story short...it's a great thing that you can open up to F/4 even at 24mm.

Q: 4. What size fits for sony 200-600 lens?

A: The large size would fit the 200-600 just fine.

Q: 5. Would it fit Benro Carbon Fiber Gimbal Head with PL100W?

A: No. The following system is made and designed for the Wimberley WH-200 units.

Q: 6. Would this lens be a good choice for group portraits?

A: I wouldn't use this for any kind of portraiture. This lens introduces a great deal of distortion which is great for many applications. I think of it as artistic distortion. But you don't want to distort people - they probably wouldn't like it at all.

Q: 7. Does this lens have Image Stabilizer?

A: No, but it can easily be adapted to work on the Sony A7II

Q: 8. Hi, I was contemplating renting this lens to use on a 5D II and a 7D II. I've seen other wide-angles cause fringing / darkening of the frame edges when mounted on a body with a crop sensor. I figure it'd be able to be used at 11mm on the 5DII but could I still get a usable 18mm from this on a 7D II without issue?

A: It is called vignetting and you have it backwards. Vignetting for an EF lens is worse on a full frame camera with the same lens at the same aperture. This has fairly high vignetting on a full frame camera, but considering the focal length, not that bad. On a 7DII it would not be a issue. As you calculate, it becomes an 18-39 equiv on a crop sensor. It would be phenomenal quality in that range. But there are a lot better values out there than this lens in that focal range. Consider the 10-22 or 10-18 EF-S lens, unless the highest optical quality is your goal. To me, the whole point of this lens is to get the 126 degree perspective and you need a FF camera to get it. You would need a 7mm lens on a 7DII to get it and that doesn't exist (except for fish eyes).

Q: 9. What size of lens hood cover fit for canon 200-400 lens?

A: XL

Q: 10. Does this also cover the 24-70 mm f2.8G ED lens as well ???

A: The one you would need is the LensCoat Lens Cover for the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 Zoom AF Lens (Black), BH # LELCN2470BK https://bhpho.to/3BpoQ2l

What's there to say? Cheap, snug fit, does what it's supposed to. Not sure how it will hold up over time, I guess I'll find out...

Bought this and the next size up after seeing them on another photo blog. It was more of a why not give them a try purchase, but I'm glad I did. Leave the protective hard insert in and you have as much protection as using the hard lens cap. Take out the insert and you have front end coverage and solve the problem of what to do with your lens cap, since you can fold and stuff the hoodie anywhere. I did put a small hook and loop circle, just the hook part, on my lens hoods to insure the cover didn't just pop off, but that was more of a precaution than a necessity. I will be ordering a couple more to fit the rest of my lens and will be leaving the hard lens caps in my old camera stuff junk drawer.

Does a nice job on my Nikon 200mm f4 micro lens hood. Due to the design I'm able to keep the hood on and protect the lens at the same time. Fits very well.

Once the lens is on my camera, I leave the hood on and use this as my lens cap. Best and easiest way to work.

Great hood cover for the price. The cap portion has a stiff (removable) disc to give it more structure which is a great improvement over similar neoprene covers that don't have any structure as it provides additional protection if something hits or rests against the front of the cover. Although, it is meant to be able to be used without a lens cap, I would still recommend a lens cap if you want to avoid getting more dust on the lens. Dust can still get on your lens easily while removing/installing the cover and while it is covered.

Use this with Nikon AF 14mm F/2.8ED lens, perfect tight fit and has cushion in the front. Bravo.

I use this little cap to cover my 18-250 Sigma lens on walkabouts. It pops on and off in a jiff, with no need to fiddle and fumble with the lens cap. In fact, I tend to keep it on my D7000 with the 18-250 at all times with the lens hood in place and ready to shoot.
