The PCC-170SWO from AKG is a surface-mounted supercardioid boundary layer microphone of professional quality suitable for boardrooms, churches, courtrooms, and council chambers. Because of its highly directional pickup pattern, the PCC-170SWO minimizes background noise and feedback.

The PCC-170SWO has a silent-operating membrane switch which is normally off. The switch can be configured for touch on/off, momentary on or momentary off operation. This configuration is set by a bottom-mounted DIP switch. A high intensity LED lights when the unit is on. The PCC-170SWO is intended for multiple microphone use on a conference table where each person wants control of his or her microphone.

A pair of extra leads in the microphone cable allows isolated remote sensing of the microphone switch closure. In a typical distance-learning application, a video camera would track to the person who switched on the microphone. The microphone can be set to be always on. In this mode, the switch only activates the remote sensing and LED. This is useful when using an external gated mixer (automatic mixer). Remote sensing is done by a patented opto-coupled MOS switching circuit. At the remote-sensing leads, the resistance goes low when the mic is on.

Since the microphone capsule is placed on a boundary or surface, direct and reflected sounds arrive at the diaphragm in-phase. This coherent addition of direct and reflected waves increases sensitivity 6 dB and prevents phase cancellations. The microphone capsule is small enough to ensure phase coherency up to the highest frequencies in the audible spectrum, resulting in a wide, smooth frequency response free of phase interference. Clarity and reach are also enhanced.

Self-contained electronics eliminate the need for an in-line preamp. Powered by 12 - 48V phantom power, the PCC-170SWO has a low-impedance balanced output which permits long cable runs without hum pickup or high-frequency loss. Self-noise is low and sensitivity is very high and an RFI suppression is included. A bass-tilt switch allows the user to tailor the low-end response for particular applications.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the Beta91A manufactured in Mexico or China ?

A: The Shure Beta 91A Boundary Microphone is manufactured in Mexico.

Q: 2. can i get this mic with a 30' foot cable and mute button ?

A: Hi, We use these boundary mics for filming round table conferences. All are connected via an additional 10m (approx 33 ft) XLR cable to an audio deck. No problems with noise. Each has its own channel so easy to null the gain if mute is needed. They work really well. Great value for the money. Hope that helpsK

Q: 3. Is the grill removable for cleaning ?

A: No it is not. But you can get a sanitizing product called Goby Labs Sanitizer Spray for Microphones. This is the B&H part number B&H # GOGLS104B.

Q: 4. If I got 4 mics, could I line up two in either row and record like this? OR could i line up all 4 in the same row?

A: You can use four of the Olympus ME-33 Boundary Microphones to record in a stereo configuration, with two mics on the left and two on the right. Up to three ME-33 mics can be used together in one line or six mics in two separate lines for a stereo setup. For a stereo setup, you can use a recorder with two separate inputs or use a Y-adapter the Kopul 3.5mm Stereo Y Cable (B&H # KOHPSSM) for a recorder with a single 3.5mm mic input. Here is a link to the user manual for the ME-33 which provides instructions for setting up multiple microphones: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/839691.pdf

Q: 5. Hi. Is this BluTooth enabled?

A: No, this microphone plugs into a wireless microphone transmitter with a 3-Pin Miniature XLR input. If you have a BluTooth transmitter that has an input for a microphone with a 3-Pin Miniature XLR, it would probably work.

Q: 6. Is this Mic mutable?

A: Hi Bryan, There is not a mute option built into the microphone, no. Sharon

Q: 7. I want to know how much radius will be covered by single mic ?

A: I looked extensively to find the specs on the coverage of the Olympus ME-33. I couldn't find any specific information including Olympus website. I also called them in Australia no luck. I dont want to make assumptions on the range of this microphone. I have included a link below to their website where you can see a diagram of how many people and how many mics they used to cover them. This should give you a reasonable idea of the distance this mic is effective.https://a href= http://www.olympus.com.au/Products/Voice-Recorders/Audio-Accessories/ME-33.aspx target= _blank www.olympus.com.au/Products/Voice-Recorders/Audio-Accessories/ME-33.aspx/a

Q: 8. Does this have a screw thread or some other way that it can be connected to a stand to hold it against a wall (as it is supposed to be against a flat surface - either table or wall)?

A: The Olympus ME-33 does not have thread mounting options. This is made to be placed against a flat horizontal surface like a desk.

Q: 9. Please y need one Crown wireless mic that y can connect to audiotechnica system 10 receiver, it has to have the tipe of conector for audiotechnica atw 1101 with the conector code name cW?best regards

A: The CM311 is available in different versions. The CM311L with a three-pin mini XLR connector which fits all AKG wireless body-pack transmitters. The CM311A which is a full size XLR connecter and CM-311AE is a pig-tail which you will have to wire on the connector for the Audio Technica. Unfortunately we do not have the CM-311AE in stock. Here is a link to the manual for wiring. a href= http://www.akg.com/pro/p/cm311group#downloads-link target= _blank http://www.akg.com/pro/p/cm311group#downloads-link/a
