A: It's not the lens, it's the cameras auto-focus mechanism not getting enough light to focus. The light coming in from the lens hits a translucent mirror, most of the light goes up to your viewfinder, some gets to the auto-focus sensor so in low-light conditions it can be very difficult for a camera to focus properly. Also, this isn't the sharpest lens so that wouldn't help the focus much either. I know you probably got an f/2 lens hoping to get more low light shots, but you just can't go too low-light.
