Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I'm looking for a tripod to use for VR use with an Kandao Obsidian. How high can this center column extend without making a large footprint- or do you have a different model that would be more appropriate for VR use?

A: When fully extended this tripod is about 54" tall. Preferably for VR shooting you want the camera to be about eye level so it is capturing the right perspective. So if you want the vantage point (eye level view) to be from roughly 54", this would be perfect, if not I would look for a taller tripod.

Q: 2. can you remove only one section of the center column, as I see it has 2?

A: Hi Maria, you cannot remove one of the Center Column sections but you can extend only one of the two sections, giving you maximum flexibility for using the column at whichever height is perfect for your shot.

Q: 3. Will a Kirk BH-1 ballhead fit on this tripod with the legs folded up and around it, without it possibly damaging the legs, or is that head too wide?

A: A Kirk BH-1 ball head will fit on the Feisol Tournament CT-3342 Rapid Tripod Legs.

Q: 4. What is the diameter of the base where the head sits?

A: The base diameter is approximately 1.6 inches.

Q: 5. would this tripod work with a Sony A11 mirrorless camera?

A: Yes, Judith, that would be an excellent combination.

Q: 6. Will the short center column fir ct3441 fit this tripod? Or it comes with its own.

A: Unfortunately, we do not have a short column for the CT-3332 - sorry about that!

Q: 7. Can this support the weight of Canon 300 f2.8 and 1D Mk IV?

A: The tripod can easily hold it. The issue you'll face is the ball head. Assuming that you want to keep the weight light, you'll want a lightweight head, too. Whichever one you get, make sure it can handle the weight of the body and lens. Keep in mind that the lens acts as a lever. That lens, especially with filters attached will cause many lesser heads to creep. FWIW, I use a Really Right Stuff BH-30, Canon 70D and (among others) a Canon 100-400 (old model) with no problem

Q: 8. Can I attach half bowl head in CT-3342 tripod? if yes what is the size?

A: Half bowl heads are not compatible with this tripod.

Q: 9. Do the legs on the CT-3401 fold back over the head to make it more compact for packing?

A: no, since there is no center column it is not needed

Q: 10. What is the maximum height, without extending the center column?

A: Hi Brett, the maximum un-extended height of the CT-3332 is 0.98m / 38.58 in.

The CT-3342 is a very light tripod with a big weight limit. I like the 3 section legs and the flat top plate without center column. It's made of machined aluminum vs cast. And the finish and detail work is excellent. It stands pretty tall without the need for a center column. And the upright angle makes for easy leveling on unstable ground. With the legs folded under the plate it's very compact and much smaller in diameter than with the legs folded over the ball head and plate. Thus, easy to strap to a back pack. This is great for the outdoors and landscape work. I used it for panoramas at night. The only caution is, because it's so light, it's optimal to use the bag hook to add some weight while shooting under windy conditions.

Beefy tripod, love it for astrophotography. Fully extended, it's tall enough to view those deep space objects overhead without being a yoga master and yet the tripod remains solid.

This little tripod is becoming my goto favorite for my field and wildlife photography. Its lighter than my large tripod and although the maximum height is lower, it forces me to think more creatively when I use it contributing to the bulk of my keepers (photos).
The build is excellent; solid carbon fiber legs, smooth operating twist locks, foam padded top tubes and the most convenient leg locking mechanism I've seen or used to spread the legs outward for a wider stance. I would be willing the put this Feisol tripod up against similar sized tripods by Really Right Stuff and Gitzo. The only noticeable difference is the huge savings in price. Well done!

I bought this tripod for hiking. I added the optional short center column (which requires you to also purchase the standard center column for the mount). The short center column adds about 3 inches and also allows you to get closer to the ground. When I add my ballhead and camera the viewfinder is eye level for me (6'0). This works very well for me, I like that this tripod can be modified to fit different users. Besides the light weight, one of the main reasons I chose this tripod is the water resistance, it is designed to be used wet/saltwater conditions, this was an important consideration for me since I live in Oregon. This tripod is so light it does make for a higher center of gravity with a camera mounted on it, but it is a solid platform that can easily handle a 200mm focal length. This tripod is well worth considering if you are looking for lightweight support, it deploys quickly, it is very solid, water resistant, and well made.

Very light, very compact, and very solid for its weight. When I first saw this I dismissed it out of hand because of the two-section center column. Then a friend bought one (against my recommendation) and I changed my mind when I saw it. Of course it's best to use it with as little column extension as possible, but even with the column jacked all the way up, it's still reasonably stiff, just needs some weight on the hook to keep it from getting tippy. I got it to use with an A6400 for backpacking (perfect for that), but find it adequate for my A7r2 with reasonably small lenses (f/4 standard zooms and primes, etc) when the choice is taking something light or doing without.

This is my third Feisol tripod purchase. I also own a 3472 M1 and 3401 purchased from B&H which are still in use for nature and landscape photography. I purchased the 3402 for a new backpack I setup for a Fujifilm mirrorless system. I use Feisol tripods exclusively for field work largely because of their light weight and exceptionally small folded dimension.

I set up the Feisol CT-3402 tripod with an attached gimbal head, the minute I got it from B & H. Gotta say that the folks at B & H went out of their way to get the tripod to me in time for my extended Yellowstone trip, Being very small and only5' tall and having some health issues, I needed to lower the amount of weight that I was carrying in the field. I'm a retired pro wildlife and wildflower photographer, so I was looking for a shorter tripod with a heavy load capacity (for shooting low-angle wildlife images) but that could also go down to 10 inches or less for shooting macro pix of wildflowers. Here are my initial thoughts and observations about the Feisol carbon fiber CT-3402 tripod. It's very sturdy yet light as a feather. The CF legs have a large diameter with foam padding....making it EZ to carry the tripod long distances even with a gimbal head attached. I found no lens creep whatsoever even with a heavy pro camera, super telephoto lens setup. The tripod is very EZ to set up, the twisting leg locks operate efficiently and effortlessly and the tripod is EZ to lower and/or take down. I especially like the hook under the plate that allows you to add extra weight when it's windy, which is very common in the Greater Yellowstone. So, at the moment, I'm really lovin' this tripod. The big test, however, will be how the tripod performs in the field. I'll post an updated review at the end of the summer after my Yellowstone trip. But my initial reaction is that the Feisol CT-3402 is an excellent tripod, especially, for the money. It also comes with a nice bag and a set of tools. Well done Feisol! And many thanks to B & H for going out of their way to help me.

I am quite pleased with this travel tripod. It is well made, compact, light weight, strong and a good value. It is great for macro work on flowers and other small subjects-fully adjustable and can get low. i have had problems with it.
