The Azden SGM-250P is a shotgun microphone that is powered via phantom power only—for use with professional cameras and recorders. Specifically tuned to preserve the natural qualities of a speaking subject, the mic provides video creators with a cost-effective solution for mobile journalism, run & gun, and documentary applications.

The SGM-250P features a 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response and a two-step low cut filter. The mic is built with a rugged all-metal barrel and has tightly spaced vertical slots along the tip to provide side and rear rejection. Measuring about 8" in length, the SGM-250P is easily kept out of frame in boompole applications and is suitable for almost any filming situation.

The mic is equipped with a gold-plated XLR output, and comes with a shoemount holder, a foam windshield, and a zippered carrying case.

A: Yes, this Azden SGM-250CX Short Shotgun Microphone will be compatible with the Canon XA11.

Q: 2. Can I use Azden SGM-250MX with Blackmagic Production Camera 4K ?

A: No, the Production 4k does not have the proper connection for this mic. For the Production 4k, we'd recommend a standard xlr based shotgun such as BH# SEMKE600, paired with this Saramonic mixer, BH #SABMCCA01, meant to give you TRS 1/4'' outputs for the Production 4k.

Q: 3. Is there an extension cable so I could use this as a boom-pole mounted mic with my C70? I already bought this mic from BH, but need a cable solution...

A: Unfortunately we no longer offer TA3 extension cables to accommodate that length at this time.

Q: 4. Will this mount onto the tilta cage for the bmpcc 4k?

A: This shotgun mic will mount into the shoe on the top of the Tilta Camera Cage for Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K/6K (Basic Kit, Tilta Gray), BH #TITAT01BG.

Q: 5. How does the Azden 3500 do outside in high temps and humidity?

A: The Azden SGM-3500 Broadcast Shotgun Microphone is not IP-rated for water resistance, and Azden has not published specs on its maximum operational temperature. As such, it should be treated with care and kept away from moisture and extreme temperatures.

Q: 6. Does this come with the pictured shock mount?

A: yes it does.

Q: 7. Will this mic comfortably fit in the Sony audio top handle for the FX3/FX30?

A: Yes, the Azden SGM-250CX Short Shotgun Microphone will fit in the mic holder on the Sony XLR-H1 XLR Handle Unit for the Sony FX3 Full-Frame Cinema Camera.

Q: 8. HOW TO INSTALL THIS MIC ON bmpcc 4k, should I buy anything additional?

A: Install on bmpcc a cold shoe B&H # SM1241 or PEAMF1420 to mount mic. This mic has a Mini XLR provided: Azden SGM-250MX Mini-XLR Short Shotgun Microphone for Blackmagic Pocket Cinema (Shockmount, Phantom Only) and the bmpcc has a mini xlr connection: Audio Connectors 1 x Mini XLR Mic/Line Level (+48 V Phantom Power) Input 1 x 1/8" / 3.5 mm Stereo Mic/Line Level Input 1 x 1/8" / 3.5 mm Stereo Headphone Output

Q: 9. What does the CX suffix stand for? Camera XLR?

A: While the manufacturer does not specify, we believe it refers to Cabled XLR.

Q: 10. I saw a user photo on the Canon C70 listing with this microphone attached. Will it work on the C70?

A: Yes, the Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera has the necessary phantom-powered Mini XLR microphone inputs to work with the Azden SGM-250MX Mini-XLR Shotgun Microphone with Windshield Kit for Blackmagic Pocket Cinema (Shockmount, Phantom Only).

I mostly use the Azden SGM-250CX along with a Sennheiser Lavalier wireless microphone to pick up the ambient room sound then reduce the db in that channel in post production so I have some room sound. It's also my backup incase the Lavalier has a problem. I didn't like the size or length of the Sennheiser shotgun mics and the Azden was mentioned in the Q&A and it seemed like a good fit for and on camera mic for my camcorder. Like people say, wish it didn't have a hardwired XLR connection and could run on battery as well as phantom power but the size was right and the reviews were good. It also is reasonably priced compared to some mics. I haven't used the windshield kit yet but will get to it for any outdoor sessions I might have.

I tested this mic with my Panasonic GH5 and sound module and the sound is fantastic. Rich and velvety with great directionality. The mic is so sensitive that it actually picked up the vibrations in my fingers through the camera body during handheld testing so be aware of this when u go handheld.

I bought this microphone based on the excellent reviews of the Azden SGM-250, which is the same microphone without the XLR pigtail. I have not been disappointed. At only $199 you cannot go wrong with this piece. Sound quality is fantastic, very smooth and natural sounding. The short barrel length does not seem to hinder performance as the microphone seems to have excellent rejection to the sides and rear. Bravo Azden on a job well done.
